Best Class to Solo Free-Roam Regions?

I've been meaning to go through the Free-Roam regions and complete their stories/missions, but I don't exactly have anyone to play with. I'm far too shy to join/invite random strangers, so I'm planning to go at it solo. What class would make this the easiest? What abilities would be best for Solo Free-Roam Regions? I figured survival health restoring ones with an offensive class. But I didn't know if there was any class or load-out that was really good against the Free-Roam Region A.I. and bosses.

  • @keaton_fox I think it's difficult to suggest just one character for the regions as the quests vary & you may well find it's best to be flexible as you attempt different things. You can respawn any time in the regions if you think another character would be better.

Having said that, for collecting the chests & gnomes scattered all over the regions, characters with jump abilities are particularly useful.
Peashooter for Plants & Soldier for Zombies were the ones I used most, but Corn, Citron, Super Brainz & Imp (with the upgrade allowing the double jump) were all useful as well.

You get a huge amount of xp in the regions, so may want to try a variety of characters anyway - PvE areas are a go-to for most players for getting daily challenges done.

"Fearless" if available for the characters you're using is probably a good upgrade to use, but otherwise just go with whatever load-outs you find best for your own play-style.

There have been lots of posts on the various individual quests & medals, so you'll find tips if you run a search but if you need an odd hand at various points, just let us know in a post & I'm sure one of us will be happy to hop in & give you a hand! 👍😊

@keaton_fox  There are advantages to each type of classes:

    • Attack allows you to deal high damage and you can gain health for getting kills, if you use upgrades such as Vampiric.
    • Defend allows you to have high health, improving your durability in combat, if you're a sniper, you can attack enemies from long range and use drones.
    • Support allows you to give yourself buffs, pocket healing, and sometimes invincibility which is handy if you reach low health.

It depends which type of playstyle you prefer. If you want more character or upgrade tips you can let me know! 🙂

Depends on whether you’ll PvP in the future and whether you want to max rank the game.

I used my favorite character for free roam zones and then got into PvP.  By the time I started focusing on max rank, I realized I would have to use my least favorite characters in PvP to max them and wished I’d have used them in PvE.

That said, I’d use my least favorite character for PvE and not only will they level up quickly but you’ll also get more efficient with your weakest character(s).

@spIash_damage Using weaker characters for some of the PvE stuff is something I wish I'd done more of as well - even if it was only opening chests, rather than the main quests.
Your battle chest tips & vids were especially helpful for the regions if @keaton_fox needs advice on those at some stage 👍
  • Just another tip is to always use a character with an active character or daily challenge to help get it done, especially if it is a character you don't like using much in PvP.

I always do Sunflower and Scientist challenges in town center as I don't enjoy playing healers in PvP.

When I ran through the PvE regions I did so with Cactus and Captain Deadbeard respectively.

The main reason was that I anticipated having a hard time earning XP with them in PvP (based on similar difficulties in GW2) and both characters have a mobility option which is needed to reach certain areas of each map.

I wound up enjoying using both to vanquish the enemy mobs from a distance and as I leveled each character up I discovered some really handy upgrades for each one and I found I had a different experience with both compared to GW2.
