I think superboss waves become more common during the weekends and especially during RUX visits. Boss waves can be worth up to 10,000 coins on normal difficulty if you beat it and enchanted gardens become more common as well. Its probably just me though, but I think its to help players get coins for Rux.
I do agree that Torchwood superwaves are pretty common on the zombie side though but mostly on the weekends. As far as beating a torchwood boss, it is pretty easy if you have teammates or AI to help. Your composition is also important and possible health regeneration upgrades. It is best to at least have a Scientist and All Stars/Superbrains. The best way to beat a superboss wave is to switch to the scientist, plant a heal bot, heal beam the bot, keep the AI alive, and let the AI do most of the shooting.

thankyou i will try that. for the record though, in torchwood superboss battles, my ai teammates usually go down before me...but then again im not usually playing a scientist when that happens...so i will try it and see if that approach makes a difference in that scenario. thanks.

That's a terrific idea that @Krusnik0113 posted! The AI healers tend to play far too risky.
I used to try to make up for it by spawning two. I once had to deal with a super Super Bean wave by myself after all three AI's died off while I was punishing the first Super Bean. I was lucky with the garden location (outdoors in lunar landing) and that I had a good spot for a Dr. Heals. One of my proudest achievements in this game for sure.
