These things are indeed random, but sometimes random things develop into what appear to be patterns, just like a winning (or losing) streak at the casino. Also, I'd figure that patterns might also be sometimes built into the random generation, for example one of the "random" things the game might be programmed to throw at you is to repeat something several times. A few thoughts:
Are you playing solo ops? If so, are you spawning AI team mates? They ought to be able to handle the boss waves pretty much on their own with no input from you. When I began playing, it took me a while to figure out that I could spawn my team mates, and how to do it. If you're not doing solo ops, consider doing so. If you're doing solo ops by yourself with no team mates, it's gonna be extremely difficult at your skill level. Solo ops on easy difficulty is how I developed most of my initial skill with this game. I recommend you go back to easy difficulty until you improve. The difference in coins earned is not vast and the XP is the same.
I don't know how to put this part without seeming unkind: the bosses on normal difficulty are really not that hard to defeat. You need to improve your skill. I was there once myself, and for quite some time too. But I can easily finish off a super boss wave by myself, it is simply a learning curve. Aiming, utilizing cover, knowledge of how to play the various characters and variants, situational awareness, knowledge of the maps and the AI behaviors - these are all things that you will get better at with practice. I would offer to play with you and show you how to improve if you played on PS4. I recommend you seek out some garden and graveyard ops gameplay on youtube or twitch and you will pick up lots of tips and ideas just from observation.
Here's a couple practical examples: the Yeti has an icicle attack. If you are under cover, it can't hit you. Regular gargantuars pretty much can't do anything to you if you are on a rooftop. Stuff like that.
As a fellow oldster, I can tell you the learning curve of a game like this is much steeper for us than for young people. I can totally sympathize with your situation because I've been there. I used to suck with a capital S, but after a year plus a bit, I am now of moderate skill. My seven year old daughter is an ace at garden ops, though she's only played enough to be level 200 something. The only reason I get to be better than her is because she doesn't play regularly!
Lastly, you will have a much higher chance of a super boss wave if you plant an enchanted garden. So I'd avoid those if the bosses are proving too difficult to defeat. Take your time and don't be afraid to run away during a boss wave to heal up or find a more advantageous position. There is no timer and you actually earn more coins the longer the game is prolonged.
ok please be aware that i already typed this reply up once and i dont know where it went after that. its just gone. so if this ends up being an accidental repost of the same reply then please delete. but here is what i was trying to reply with...
ive been playing mostly on normal difficulty setting, usually play solo garden ops, i hop back and forth between all the character types because i like to level them up for the coins. when i need extra help, i plant heal flowers and gatling peas when i have them, and rocket bots and dr heals when i have them. i feel like my play style could be called aggressive. i do get up close a lot of times. but i also do try to run away and heal when needed. i find it more frustrating that the ai for the healer characters dont always want to heal me. ive literally been down to 3 points of health standing next to a heal flower character as it kept fighting and ignoring me and let me get knocked out. that happens a lot. but when the ai seems to be working alright, the heal flowers/scientists do help. i usually hop around between all the different characters in order to level them up for coins. then i take with me into the garden ops at least 1 tank like character and 2 healers.
aside from that, i can concede the point that im probably not the best at this game. maybe theres still things i dont know yet about this game too. but i still find it odd that im having trouble as an adult in a game geared towards kids...but either way, yesterday i did call the game EA support line. thats why im just now replying here. since yesterday i had been following their instructions on troubleshooting the game for bugs. first i uninstalled the game completely. then i followed their instructions to clear alternate mac address. then clear persistent storage 3 times. then reinstall the game. then today i was playing the game to test it out.
it was still throwing megabosses at me every single round 10 for several hours. however, at least they were now different megabosses than before. it gave me several round 10 in a row of mega superbean. then i switched to plants team. then it gave me several round 10 in a row of megabosses. one was mega vampire, and one was mega electric dude. so while it was still giving me mega bosses only in round 10, at least it was varied in which ones they were, making it easier to deal with. so i called the EA support line back and let them know the results. they agreed this was a kind of bug and suggested i update that info here.
after that i went to play the game some more and do more experiments. i ended up going back to easy difficulty level and playing 1 full garden ops. there was NO megaboss!!! i was very happy! that shows whatever this is was not effecting easy mode. then i went back to normal difficulty level and played 1 full garden ops. again this time there was also NO megaboss!! i was very very happy! this means that whatever was going on seems to be fixed at least temporarily by playing at least 1 full garden ops on easy difficulty level then going back to normal difficulty level.
i dont mind if you want to have a how to session but im on xbox.

In retrospect I realized that my post made some assumptions without a basis, and I apologize if my post seemed condescending. Your wording just made it seem like you were pretty new to the game, and I enjoy helping those in that situation. But if you keep at it, you will eventually get to the point where you can finish off most boss waves on your own.
In my experience graveyard ops is generally more difficult than garden ops, and super boss waves seem more common. It sounds like you've got a good system worked out. While I could of course be wrong, I remain convinced that your game is not bugged but rather you're getting a lot of unfortunate luck with the RNG.

you dont need to apologize. youre fine. you didnt say anything offensive. if anything im just being frustrated by the game right now.
what is RNG?
its possible its just bad luck but thats a looooot of bad luck lol. and yes i have noticed graveyard ops is more difficult overall than garden ops.

Random number generation. It rules everything from what bosses you get to what stickers you receive in a sticker pack. As you try to collect the legendary items, you will come to hate it!
A short quote from wikipedia on the subject, relevant to your situation:
"Several computational methods for random-number generation exist. Many fall short of the goal of true randomness, although they may meet, with varying success, some of the statistical tests for randomness intended to measure how unpredictable their results are (that is, to what degree their patterns are discernible)."
For example, one might flip a coin a hundred times and get heads 40 times in a row, it's just unlikely.
