Bought pvzgw2 on steam intending on starting new, hardstuck on old save.

I bought pvz gw2 on steam intending on starting a new save purely for steam, but when i booted up the game i ended up in my old save. no amount of signing out or changing accounts stop this, did i really just waste my money on the same save? is there any way to work around this besides just not getting a new save?
