Bring the Classic PvZ feel back to Garden Warfare!

Have you played the original Plants vs Zombies game back on the pc? I'm sure most of you have, and I'm also sure most of you were extremely addicted to it like I was. The Original PvZ was an amazing experience with a setting so relatable: Defending a suburban paradise from brain hungry zombies. Throughout all my years of being a PvZ fan in the past, I always Wondered what it would be like to see the Plants face the Zombies in 3D ...... Then Plants vs zombies Garden warfare came out!

I absolutely LOVE the First Garden warfare! Seeing all the plants and zombies in Rich, next generation graphics made me weep with nostalgia! The summoning pots and zombies allowed me to relive the original PvZ experience in a whole new way!

Don't even get me started on the Maps: The relatable suburban paradise! It was the last thread that finished the stitching on the PvZ experience.

Whenever I looked at gardens (Anywhere Green for that matter) in real life, it always made me think of PvZ Garden wafare, it did that good of a job of recapturing what plants vs zombies really is into a new experience!

But with Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2 ...... its unfortunately lost that charm.

Seeing the plants fight on the moon in space is definitely a fun experience in this franchise; But to have that as one of the few maps in the game takes the charm away. Purple grass and brain filled trees on the Zombiefied maps Don't scream relatable like previous PvZ experience do. With such dark and dull colours (Which do justice for the zombies might I add) it makes the map look boring to fight in. The Incredible detail the developers put into these maps are unfortunately drowned out because of this, and the plants feel so unnatural to be stuck in maps that mosly look like this. I'm not complaining about these maps, but I'm saying that these shouldn't be what we're limited to in this Sequel

Frontline Fighters however, finally added an untouched suburban map to the game (well, half a map)  And its actually one of my favourites now for obvious reasons. This map is styled like the backyard battle ground, which is what I feel most maps should look like! this way we have an array of visuals from beautiful gardens to intimidating ones.

Backyard battle ground tells us that the Zombies haven't completely won, so why must all maps treat it like they have?

This game has really great graphics, and they really only show on the plants side because its relatable and appropriately styled!

PvZ garden warfare 2 as sequal is great! A free roaming battle hub that allows players to explore the best of both worlds with tons of new content: Its great.

But the charm is unfortunately lost, and it doesn't appeal or grab me as much as the first did.

I feel that the developers Should make a whole new turf takeover map that is an untouched, fresh aired suburban paradise where plants thrive!

Not just that, but to perhaps port over Wall Nut hills from the first game and remaster it with the new games graphics to even it out, so plants have as much maps that fit them as the zombies.

If this game were to get that, It would feel like Plants vs Zombies again. And this is coming from a player who's been a fan since Day one  for the series.

What do you guys think?

  • GW2 has new character that coming from future: Citron and Super Brains. Zombie tries to destroy earth while plant tries to destroy the machine. That's why we have moon base map

For me, I like new character, new map and new story line. I don't consider as lost of charm.

While some people love the first one and like to have some nostalgia (which is there as well), others like a new thing and some variation.

  • GW2 is basically just an extension of the first game, it looks like they copied over a lot of stuff from the previous game. Whats different about this game is that the zombies get a lot more stuff, and it sounds like you've got a strong dislike for the zombie maps. I think it's good that they did that and tried something new. Remember when GW1 got obsessed with pirates in one of their patches and made like 3 pirate maps? That was new and different too at the time, and I liked it as well!

  • I like the visual design for GW2.  But you're not the first to note and express dislike for the change in aesthetic and color palette from the first game.

  • I completely agree. It's nice to find someone else that appreciates the amazing atmosphere the first Garden Warfare had. The fact that GW2 almost entirely got rid of the charm the original had has been and still is my biggest criticism of the game.

Might as well be called Garden Wacky 2 due to it's overly cartoony art direction. Even the customizations are almost all goofy/weird rather than the original Garden Warfare's more realistic, grounded customizations, for the most part.

I'd love for PopCap to return to the amazing suburban paradise atmosphere the original GW got so right. They had something incredible, and chose to mostly throw it away for a goofier, sillier look for the maps (and even characters) of GW2.

It's unfortunate, really, that Garden Wacky 2 ended up being the sequel to my (and I'm sure many others') favorite game of 2014. (And one of my all-time favorites).

I made a post here almost a year ago that goes into more detail about my thoughts on the series and how I believe it was taken in the wrong direction, if anyone's interested. (I accidentally locked it from further comments, though). :P

Hello everyone and thank you for sharing your thoughts on the game. Personally I like overall level design in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 more. A great variety of settings allow you to enjoy game longer. And it is really interesting to see how developers were able to weave character futuristic design into level design and story. But yes, different parts of the franchise can have a bit different sense to it, since this is what makes each game a new and distinct experience.

    Cheers,

    Archi
