cant hear voice chat at all

Product: Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
Please provide your Xbox gamertag or PSN ID. (Optional)
In what game mode did the bug occur? Everywhere
Summarize your bug Every other sound works, but voice chat is silent.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? No clue
Which character were you playing when the bug occurred? Peashooter
What upgrades had you equipped with this character? N/A
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)

I've had this issue for a long time, but never really had a reason to report it as i never used voice chat, but now i figured i should.
Every other sound in game works, but nobody else can hear me speak, and i cant hear anyone else.

Voice chat volume is at 100%, its enabled, push to talk is enabled and im pressing the right button, but i dont hear anyone and they cant hear me. The little icon with my name appears, indicating the game is hearing me speak, but nobody else does. i can see other people speaking, but i dont HEAR them.

My microphone DOES work, i've tested it.

@Mysterymaster_OP If you are on windows 10, can you open

Windows Settings > Devices > Sound Settings > Manage Sound Devices

What is the list of output devices you currently have?  If there is more than one output, disable everything except the headset you're trying to put it to.  Again, the game does not take what your default setting is set to so it does not matter what you set your default to.

@Mysterymaster_OP The voice chat audio output is not necessarily the same as the default audio output.  Check if you have other external audio outputs, for example a monitor, a webcam, occulus, a game controller, and see if disabling their audio on your PC's side will let you hear it.

@anpangcontractor nope, all audio input/output is set to my headset. i honestly cant figure out how this is even possible, every other sound works, but nobody can hear me speaking and i cant hear anyone speaking despite the game displaying the voice icon

    @anpangcontractor This fixed it.
Is there a way to set the game to use headset? i dont want to have to disable speakers permanently just to be able to hear ingame voice chat

@Mysterymaster_OP Looks like I was wrong on my previous statement about it not looking at default device - it seems to go to your 'default communications device'.

Navigate to Windows Settings > Devices > Sound Settings > Sound Control Panel

Under the playback tab, right click your headset and set it to default communications device.
