Character Guide - Snapdragon!

Hey everyone,

My guide series has officially returned! We are back on the character guides. If you are wondering why I stopped doing them, I sort of forgot and/or lost interest. But I am back and am ready to finish these guide series.

Anyway, let's get started, this time for Snapdragon!

This guide series intends to cover each of the characters with depth and detail. In this guide, I will cover the Snapdragon. By the way, more information will come to this guide SOON!

For some of this guide, I used the following link for some of the information, the rest of this is my own information, you could also refer to this link if you wish to know more about Snapdragon, go here: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Snapdragon_(PvZ:_BfN).

Overview of the Character

Snapdragon is an Attack character on the Plants faction that attacks their enemies with fire, and has 175 health by default. It has a Primary and Secondary weapon, which neither are counted as abilities.

Primary Weapons and Abilities

Primary Weapon

Primary Weapon: Flame Blower. It is the Snapdragon's main weapon that is used when not holding the aim button. It deals 6 damage at enemies in a relatively close range, and it has a chance of dealing fire damage to enemies. The rate of fire of Snapdragon's primary is fast. The Flame Blower has infinite ammo, but can overheat is limited to relatively close range. Fire damage deals 9 damage per second for a few second, but cannot reduce enemies below 15 health with the fire damage.

Secondary Weapon

Secondary Weapon: Flare Ball. It is the Snapdragon's secondary weapon that is used when holding the aim button. It lobs an explosive flare projectile, and it deals 29 damage for regular hits and 34 damage for critical hits, and it has a chance of dealing fire damage to enemies. It has infinite ammo, although can overheat. Fire damage deals 9 damage per second for a few second, but cannot reduce enemies below 15 health with the fire damage.

Abilities

Swoop Slam: This ability launches you into the air, then after a short delay, you slam down on the ground in the direction that you were facing. It deals about 100 damage to enemies that you hit directly with this ability or are close to the source of impact. This is also effective against groups of enemies as you will deal damage to each enemy that you successfully hit. You can use this to close the distance between your enemies or to get away if you need to retreat as well.

Swoop Slam Character Upgrades:

  • Quake (2 upgrade points): Any enemy that you hit with Swoop Slam get knocked up and away, which means they are more vulnerable to attacks for a short time and to create some distance between you and the enemies, except you should be able to attack them afterwards without any trouble. This could be used to move the enemies away from your team, confuse them or make them more vulnerable after using this ability.
  • Incendiary (4 upgrade points): Any enemies that are indirectly hit by your Swoop Slam get set on fire automatically, which means you cannot directly hit them to trigger the fire damage, you must land very close to them and successfully deal damage. This upgrade also gives you a reduced cooldown on Swoop Slam if you successfully vanquish an enemy with it, meaning that directly hitting enemies still benefits the upgrade. This is useful for using Swoop Slam more frequently, or to still get use out of Swoop Slam if you do not generally manage to hit your enemies directly.

Blue Blazes: This ability launches a blue fireball that can home on enemies, and it deals about 100 direct damage and 35 splash damage to enemies that are hit by this, even if it was not directly targeting that enemy. It has a delay after activation before the fireball is launched, so you can use this time to lock this on an enemy that you want to target, or it may target a random enemy somewhat close to you, if you do not really pay attention to where you want it to go. The projectile moves slowly, but the homing makes up for this.

Blue Blazes Character Upgrades:

  • Heat Seeking (2 upgrade points): Your Blue Blazes has better homing capabilities, as the Blue Blazes can more easily turn around and can travel further before it disappears. This can be useful to improve your chances of successfully landing a hit with this, as it will pursuit your enemies more relentlessly. It will travel further which means that your enemies are less likely to successfully outrun it as well, so if you wish to make use of the homing, this is a great upgrade to use.
  • Ventilation (3 upgrade points): Activating your Blue Blazes removes any overheat you currently have with your Flame Blower and Flare Ball, and reduces the cooldown of all of your other abilities as well. This is great as you could activate Blue Blazes as a way to simply remove your overheat of your primary weapons and so that you can use your other abilities more often. Even if you do not use your Blue Blazes much or you often cannot make much use of it, this upgrade is excellent as it helps your other attacks recharge much more quickly.

Blazing Trail: This ability launches a straight column of fire in the direction that it was launched, which lasts for around 5 seconds and consistently deals 5 damage to any enemy who is caught in it. It could deal fire damage as well, but remember that fire damage leaves enemies with 15 health or more. This can be great in many situations, including blocking areas off for your enemies, covering your team or dealing additional damage, as well as in other situations. It could be used in tight spaces, especially when enemies may be grouped, for loads of damage.

Blazing Trail Character Upgrades:

  • Engulf (2 upgrade points): Your Blazing Trail lasts for about 10 seconds now, which is significantly longer than usual. This is going to make it really hard for enemies to escape if they need to leave quickly. This can be used to control areas for longer as well and provide cover for longer. It also means that you do not have to wait as long before you can use the ability longer, technically reducing the refresh time.
  • Backdraft (3 upgrade points): The Blazing Trail travels much faster when it is launched, giving enemies much less time to react to its activation and possibly surprising them as they may have never seen it coming before either. This is great if you need your ability to be launched quickly or if you see a group of enemies approaching, you could get them to back off and make them think twice about approaching, especially if you can launch this quickly.

Gameplay

SOON!

Exclusive Character Upgrades

Snapdragon's exclusive character upgrades are as follows:

Excellent Accelerant (2 upgrade points): When you set your enemies on fire, they will be set on fire for 4 seconds instead of 1.5 seconds, which is a major improvement. It is already quite easy to deal fire damage so this upgrade will make the fire effect even more potent. This is great for dealing even more damage to your enemies and makes it easier for you and your allies to successfully vanquish the enemy after the fire expires.

Coolant (2 upgrade points): When you set your enemies on fire, your overheat for your Flame Blower and Flare Ball is reduced, meaning that successful fire damage will allow you to keep attacking for longer before you overheat. Because the overheat is shared for both of your primary weapons, you can keep attacking with either weapon. This is useful if you want to consistently deal damage without really needing to worry about overheating, this is even better if you attack multiple enemies as you can trigger this effect multiple times.

Radiate (2 upgrade points): Your Flare Ball has even more splash damage than normal, an increase of about 25%, and it will increase the damage of your Flare Ball attack by 10 damage, whether you hit an enemy directly with it or you deal splash damage. This is really useful to have if you like to use this attack often, or if you struggle to successfully land shots with it. It is a more viable ranged option this way, which you can make use of if engaging in close range is not a good idea. Note that this only applies to your Flare Ball (secondary weapon) and will not work for your Flame Blower (primary weapon).

Campfire (3 upgrade points): Whenever you get a vanquish on an enemy, you automatically create a fire column at the location where you vanquished the enemy which lasts for about 5 seconds each. This can be used to benefit yourself and your team by getting a vanquish, or if you really like to make use of the Blazing Trail ability, this could be put to good use. You can make even better use of this if an enemy is currently located where the fire column would be placed in a really good location, so try to lookout for situations where you could make use of this. More Blazing Trails have arrived!

Usefulness in Situations

General

More effective against closer targets and groups of enemies, due to the Flame Blower being limited to close range and because Flame Blower, Swoop Slam and Blazing Trail are useful against enemy groups.

Reviving Allies

  • Use your Flame Blower to protect yourself against enemies that are close to you, or you can use Flare Ball to attack enemies from further distances.
  • Activate your Blue Blazes immediately before reviving to distract an enemy or to deal heavy damage to an enemy that may get close.
  • Activate your Blazing Trail before reviving to give yourself cover and consistently damage enemies that get too close to you.
  • You can use Swoop Slam to close the distance between you and a fallen ally if you so wish to.

Contesting the Objective

  • Use your Flame Blower on enemies that are relatively close to you, or Flare Ball if you cannot reach any enemies.
  • Use your Swoop Slam to avoid attacks and then to vanquish an enemy or to close distance between an enemy you want to fight.
  • Use Blue Blazes quickly to try and vanquish an enemy, see how it travels. Wait, hang on, I just realised that was funny. Travels.
  • Make use of your Blazing Trail to damage grouped enemies, protect your team temporarily with cover or to deny space for your enemies.

When Abilities are Negated

  • Use your Flame Blower on enemies that get in attacking distance, or you could use Flare Ball on enemies in the distance, but you move more slowly while using this weapon so it may not be practical.
  • You can activate your Blue Blazes before collecting an item to possibly deal damage to or vanquish an enemy that gets in your way.
  • You can activate your Blazing Trail before collecting an item to seperate and damage enemies that are in front of you or that appear in front of you.

Tips

  • Try to focus on attacking enemies that dare get close to you or enemies that you get close to, or target enemies that are in groups, to make the most out of Snapdragon!
  • If using your Flare Ball, you can jump, quickly aim and attack at the same time. By doing this, you lose most of your movement speed penalty and can make yourself harder to hit. You just need to jump, quickly aim and then attack. You can do this as often as you wish.
  • Use Swoop Slam to damage groups of enemies or to close the distance between you and your enemies. It could even be used as a mode of transportation, or using it to retreat is also an option if needed as it is your best form of mobility.
  • Make use of Blue Blazes by attempting to get it to home in on an enemy while you are waiting for the ability to resolve. You can try and target enemies with less health for an easy vanquish or with more health to weaken them. If you can activate this at close range, enemies have less time to react.
  • Your Blazing Trail can be used for many things, so you could use it to damage groups of enemies, deny enemies of specific areas or even cover for your team, so try to be strategic about when you decide to make use of this ability. You could even activate this behind your enemies for extra damage and a surprise attack.

These are my Snapdragon tips. Thanks for reading!
