Christmas in pvz shooters: The best holdiay event?

Feastivus is our own way to celebrate Christmas in pvz

It was first celebrated in the shooters on December 1, 2014 in gw1 with exclusive Joyous holiday packs which contained numerous Christmas themed Customizations and Spawnables with one pack given to the player for free from December 1st through December 25th.

Those spawnables being:

Cariboom:

Some say the Cariboom is an ancient reindeer plant. We think he's just wearing a hat.

Snow shroom:

The Snow-shroom is the Ice-shroom's long lost cousin from the North Pole

.

Holiday zombie: There's a surprise gift under this tree! A browncoat in a Christmas tree with a star on top that has 50 health compared to the base 30.

Gw1 had some nice cosmetics and cool redesigns for npcs but gw2 would really elevate Feastivius as the packs are not longer available so these guys are nearly extinct.

Gw2: First celebrated on December 13, 2016 and introduced the new NPC: Snowman (may he rest in peace)

who offers daily challenges involving finding a hidden key to unlock the Christmas-themed chest next to him, which contains a special Christmas-themed customization items.

The event also added new Christmas themed consumables which are obtainable through the Feastivus Pack. The regular packs are also redesigned to show a Christmas theme.

Elf pea:

This Peashooter makes toys out of Zombie bits

.

Candy Cane shoot:

Freshens Zombie bad breath with a powerful peppermint flavor

.

Feastivius weed: 175 health over terracotas 170 health.

This clever disguise has absolutely no effect on Zombies, but it does provide extra armor

!

Bell breaker bot:

Ding Dong, your armor is gone

.

Gifted boxer bot:

Plants are in for a surprise when they discover what's in these gift boxes

.

Zomtree: same as holiday zombie but visually different. The holdiay has a star on top that lights up occasionally and has red bauble ornaments. The zomtree has a zombot on top and yellow star ornaments. I personally prefer the zomtree.

Zomtrees and Feastivius weeds join the battle in the backyard but so far they havent spawned in for me yet. Shame as the Jackocoats really helped the AI zombies during halloween. Dissapointing that Snowman also no longer shows up.

Bfn: first celebrated on December 2, 2019

It includes a Feastivus prize map, with the Feastivus Master costume for the Engineer as the completion reward. It also includes character challenges for Electric Slide, Engineer, Kernel Corn, and Cactus

.

It changed giddy park into a winter wonderland with presents snowballs, frozen water, candy canes, present air balloons, Christmas lights strung across buildings, Feastivus signs with skulls replacing the top of the i, aurora borealis in the night sky, and snow occasionally dropping from trees.

One of the three nightime variants of giddy park

THIS is what bfn needed a very interesting aesthetic that gets players excited for an event. It just oozes so much detail and love, more so than the base game look. Sadly no zomtrees running around to slam dunk the setting. Easily the best of giddyparks aesthetic changes.

The engineer as a toy making elf is also a great cosmetic choice. Imagine him fighting the Elf peas.

The snow and aurora borealis make me wish the maps in bfn had more diverse locations like gw2 for a winter themed map like Great white north which is fun to use zomtrees on at night.

Give me bfn's winter wonderland with the festive characters in it and i can be it peace. Also it seems like a missed opportunity to not retexture the zomtree rock toss as a snowball.

Next post will be about map hazards and gimmicks.

Pardon terrible phone camera quality

  • Glad to see you post this, @stukapooka . I've not been sure what to post about lately. I'm still playing some GW2, but man do we need a GW3 already! It feels so weird not having some kind of live event to look forward to; the maintenance mode mystery portals in GW2 and BfN don't cut it, we need the more engaging mystery portals and community challenges of GW2!

Anyway, Feastivus is a winner in all 3 games for me. GW only really has the consumables, but they do look good. GW2 has their own consumables, and of course some of them spawn in the backyard while the snowman used to give us quests. I used to look forward to it resetting when I got home from work to check in on it and get new hat packs from him. The quests were simple, but they were still soemthing different to do. BfN's Giddy Park looks amazing for Feastivus, and the costumes for Engineer and Chomper are excellent, along with that nice Patrick Steward ad that was a rare promotional video for the game. I would love to see holiday themed AI for Giddy Park too, but Giddy Park's AI has always lacked.

Come on EA/PopCap! Fake leaks on Reddit aside, we haven't heard anything for the PvZ shooters, and we're chomping at the bit for something that brings us the love GW and GW2 had and still have to a degree, but adds some new stuff as well! Let's see an even better Feastivus in a new GW3!

@Iron_Guard8We've practically covered every topic under the sun on this forum so its hard to find new topics without digging deep into the game design.

Gonna try with the maps gimmicks!

Bfn aesthetic combined with gw2's seasonal npcs would've been the coolest thing to see. Gw2 winter mods try to use giddy park styles for the backyard and it looks great.

Giddy park has the bounty quests where it gets flooded with npc classes yet why isnt that just a base option? Bfn always lacked in regards to npcs and giddy park but its bfn's motto to take one step forward than jump backwards off a cliff.

We needed a true gw3 years ago. Every day they keep radio silence hurts the fanbase and literally no one has high hopes for pvz 3 at this point as even nightcap is gonna be in pvz 2 now. Anything whether its just saying their not doing anything or giving it to the community or something.

  • Feastivus is my favourite seasonal event for sure. I was hoping to see the snowman return in Garden Warfare 2, although unfortunately I never saw him return last year. The Sticker Shop has a promotion during the Christmas and Halloween events where you gain an extra Sticker in every Sticker Pack you buy, so this time of year is perfect for saving coins on your Sticker Pack purchases. The "Ding Dong, Your Armor's Gone" quote from the Bell Breaker Bot is one of the funniest quotes that I heard. I do wish that the Backyard Battleground would sometimes spawn in Feastivus themed Weeds and Browncoats during this time of year, like during Halloween Lawn of Doom Event (unless I forgot).

@stukapooka If that's true, why would the feastivus summonables be removed from the Backyard Battleground? Would have been great for aesthetics.

@TheSprinter85 I looked at any old zackscott video and the feastivius weed was there in the backyardso I guess its just another case of popcap kicking pvz fans in the wallnuts again and removing something for no valid reason.

@stukapooka That is unfortunate! At least the Feastivus summonables can be summoned during any time of the year in Turf Takeover. The removal of Feastivus summonables in the backyard confuses me because the Lawn of Doom ones still appear during Halloween. Oh well!
