Currency Earning Guide - Coins!
Hey everyone,
In this guide, I will cover the different ways on how you can earn Coins in this game. Note that I will not particularly be covering farming techniques, but I will cover the main ways in which you will be able to earn coins during general gameplay. I will also provide how effective each technique is, if each method of obtaining Coins is a renewable resource and so on.
Anyway, here are the ways you can earn Coins. Just note I do not mention any hacks, cheats or farming techniques:
RENEWABLE SOURCES
Trading in Regional Currencies for Coins
By heading to a shop in one of your free-roam regions, you can actually spend your free-roam exclusive currencies, which is either Tacos, Sheriff Badges or Marshmallows, depending on your region, in order to gain Coins. For 50 of one of the currencies you spend at the shop, you gain 6,000 coins. Now, while this may not seem like a massive amount of Coins, if you have completed your free-roam regions and you have no other items to spend these regional currencies on, this could most certainly be a wise investment. Note that there are some things that you can repeat in your free-roam regions that use these regional currencies, such as the Plumbing Gig and gnome activites, but if none of these options interests you, or you have a lot of leftover currencies, this may be a worthwhile way of obtaining some Coins.
Amount of Coins You Receive: Medium.
Completing an Attempt of Battle Chests, Ops, Bounty Hunts and Other Activities in Free-Roam Regions
When you complete most activities in a free-roam region for the first time, such as one of the Battle Chests, a Bounty Hunt challenge, or an Ops challenge, for instance, you will earn Coins for your efforts. When you successfully complete one of these activities for the first time, you will get a set amount of Coins. This also applies to some other activities such as taking the Crystal Dog back to the Well, or a Story Quest. Just note that completing these activities subsequent times will still give you Coins, but you will get significantly less than the first time you completed it, only about a quarter of what you originally got. If you want a top up of Coins, this way of earning them can be useful, but it may be better simply not to bother, unless you have fun repeating certain activities.
Amount of Coins You Receive: High (subsequent times are Low instead).
Doing Garden and Graveyard Ops
Playing with your friends or alongside other players will give you Coins at the end of the match. The amount you get can vary greatly, so it is really important to try and win each round to maximise your Coin outputs. Joining during a match will not give you as much Coins, but that game can go quicker and you will earn more Coins as a result. If you remain in that lobby, you will be put into another game on the other faction that you was not on before. Try to leave your Gardenator and Grave-O-Matic as undamaged as possible, place Bots and Pots as necessary, and help your team to win where you can. By doing well in Ops and hopefully enjoying yourself as well, whether it is with friends or other players, you will hopefully earn yourself a lot of Coins in the process.
Amount of Coins You Receive: Medium to High, depending on your overall performance.
Playing in PvP Modes
Simply playing in any PvP Mode will give you Coins for your efforts. You will receive Coins in any mode, including Turf Takeover, Battle Arena, Team Vanquish or the Weekly Game mode. The amount you get from each round can vary greatly. By performing well and gaining lots of XP, you tend to receive more Coins overall as a result. Try your best to earn vanquishes, revives, assists and whatever else you can. Playing with others in clubs, friends can also improve your teamwork and performance.
Amount of Coins You Receive: High.
Doing Private Play
Private Play is another fairly effective way to obtain Coins. By doing lower difficulties, your coin yield is not going to be very much at all, but on higher difficulties, you can actually net yourself a decent amount of Coins this way. This strategy may be effective to use if you cannot find any lobbies in Multiplayer or would prefer to go up against Al to get your Coins. Either way, you can customise the teams and the crazy settings as you like, but take note that you will not earn as many Coins if you do.
Amount of Coins You Receive: Depends on your difficulty and crazy settings. If you are playing on a low difficulty and using crazy settings, let's say not very much.
Having EA Access
If you own EA Access, you will sometimes get Coins as a monthly gift. If you own EA Access, you will occasionally get Coins. Check on Rux every so often to see if you have a gift for a little top up on coins.
How effective is this strategy? Not by any stretch of the imagination, if you do not have EA Access. Otherwise, normal.
Amount of Coins You Receive: Ask Rux.
NON-RENEWABLE SOURCES
Opening Chests in Free-Roam Regions
Opening chests that are located around your free-roam regions can actually net you significant amounts of Coins, especially the Gnome Chests located within the Gnome Shrine. However, it is worth noting that you cannot do this indefinetly, because you cannot reopen already opened chests in a region. Not all chests will provide you with these Coins, but a significant amount of them will. The amount of Coins you get within each chest can vary, some will only give you a small amount, but others can give you a fair bunch.
Amount of Coins You Receive: High to Extreme, overall, but remember it is not renewable.
Claiming Rewards after Completing all of your Battle Chests, Bounty Hunts or Ops Challenges in Free-Roam Regions
There is always a character you need to interact with before you can do the Battle Chests, Bounty Hunts or Ops Challenges. By completing all of the set quests, you can talk to these characters again, and gain a fairly large Coin reward from your efforts. Just note that you can only do this once, you may repeat the activities for a small amount of Coins but you cannot talk to these characters again for more Coins. This is useful if you want a large sum of Coins quickly. Just quickly do the activities and you will get Coins for each activity you complete, and a very decent bonus when you talk to these characters again after completing all of the activities.
Amount of Coins You Receive: High.
Levelling Up Characters
Levelling Up characters gives you a total of 1,000 Coins per level up that occurs with any of your characters. While this may not seem like much at all, there are lots of ranks to be earned overall, even during the Grandmaster ranks, so this process will give you a lot of Coins over time. The only main problem is that this strategy is not renewable because you are unable to level up characters forever. Simply playing the game and working on levelling up your characters will give you these Coins.
Amount of Coins You Receive: Low (1,000 Coins) for each level up, but you can do this many, many times so the Coins will add up over time.
WHAT CAN YOU SPEND COINS ON?
Coins are very limited with their uses, unfortunately, the only things you can spend Coins on are:
- The Reward-O-Tron 9000 (30,000 Coins per capsule, 15,000 Coins on Nintendo Switch instead).
- The XP Machine (15,000 Coins per use).
- Buying Wizard, Wildflower or TV Head from Rux (500,000 Coins each).
- Buying a Legendary Upgrade From Rux (500,000 Coins each).
- A Limited Amount of Items From Rux (on Nintendo Switch, all items bought from Rux cost Coins).
Nintendo Switch has more uses for Coins overall, as Rainbow Stars do not exist in that version of the game. Anything that would cost Rainbow Stars cost Coins, instead.
CONCLUSION
There will most certainly be some ways of earning Coins that I have not mentioned, but the ones I have mentioned here are the main ways that you can earn Coins. Basically, playing the game will give you Coins passively, but if you are actively trying to search for and earn Coins, use this guide to assist you in doing that. Because Coin uses are so limited (except on Nintendo Switch), you do not need to worry too much about trying to actively earn them, but who knows, saving up could really benefit you later on (especially on Nintendo Switch version).
Bye now!

- @TheSprinter85 Thank you 🙂
I'm sure many try to farm coins and end up extremely disappointed once they find out the reward-o-tron can be emptied.
If only there were another way to spend coins, let's say at the shop of the shady gnome.
