Demo (on steam) of PVZ1 GOTY crashes upon clicking play to use demo play

(NOTE: this was NOT on steam deck, and I am on Windows 10)

Whenever i launch the demo version of PVZ: Game Of The Year Edition, it crashes and says FATAL ERROR!!!

I can include what the error msg says if anybody needs me to

Also im on windows 11 home, idk if that makes a difference.

Never had PVZ 1 or PVZ 2 on pc, so i dont think it's some weird corrupt old file.

  • I apologize for the confusion. If you are experiencing a crash with the demo version of Plants vs. Zombies: Game of the Year Edition on Windows 11, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    • Verify game files: If you have the game installed through Steam, you can verify the integrity of the game files. Right-click on the game in your Steam library, select "Properties," go to the "Local Files" tab, and click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files." This process will check for any corrupted or missing files and attempt to fix them.
    • Update graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can often cause crashes in games. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific graphics card model and Windows 11.
    • Run the game as an administrator: Right-click on the game's executable file or its shortcut, select "Properties," go to the "Compatibility" tab, and check the option to "Run this program as an administrator." This ensures that the game has the necessary permissions to run properly.
    • Disable compatibility mode: If you have set compatibility mode for the game, try disabling it. Right-click on the game's executable file or shortcut, select "Properties," go to the "Compatibility" tab, and uncheck any compatibility mode options that are enabled.
    • Disable overlays and background applications: Some overlays, such as Discord overlay or NVIDIA GeForce Experience, as well as background applications, can interfere with games and cause crashes. Disable any overlays and close unnecessary background applications before launching the game.
    • Adjust visual settings: In some cases, lowering the graphical settings of the game can help prevent crashes. Launch the game and go to the options or settings menu to reduce the graphics quality, resolution, or other visual settings.
    • Contact game support: If none of the above solutions work, it may be helpful to contact the game's support team directly. They can provide further assistance specific to Plants vs. Zombies: Game of the Year Edition and help troubleshoot the issue.

Remember to provide specific details about the error message if you decide to contact support, as it can help them better understand and address the problem.

  • Thanks, i will try all of those you listed.

I will also edit the post to include any error msg's i get incase that can help anybody figure them out.

This is what i get from checking the files through steam without going through as admin on my pc.

    1. I dont have the option to play/run as an administrator.

    2. Steam says the game is fine.

    3. How do i check what video/graphics card i have?

    4. Dont have discord but i do have "NVIDA GeForce Now",  but i did not launch it through there.

    5. Who/Where would i go to contact official help?
