DLC Maps/Map Packs
While I dislike buying a game only to spend more money to fully unlock it, I would be happy to buy DLC maps/map packs occasionally. I think maps should be obtainable in-game and we could use Rainbow...

I think we would all want them free. I just don't think the developers will be able to devote a team to continually create content for free. Hope that makes sense.
EDIT: I also mentioned the obtainable in-game part.
In regards to funding future content paid cosmetics seems to be good. I complained at first a lot actually but purchased everything in RUX to date. I even purchased the delux and two Holiday skins. Lol
Wow that was a lot of reading! Of course agree with the sentiment which is that this game needs new content to survive, but how can Popcap affordably provide that for a game with a fairly small player base. Even monetised map packs may not give them enough ROI when they could spend the time on other hopefully more mainstream projects.
The fatal error in my eyes was lack of promotion and hype building up to the game before launch. I don't know exactly how much marketing was done and where, just from my and other people's personal experience that this game came out of nowhere.
So now Popcap need to decide how much to invest and recover this situation. Three broad options...
1) go large and provide tonnes of new content to keep existing players retained and attract new ones over time with good marketing and deals
2) accept the ROI is limited and make a steady slow trickle of content for the fans while concentrating on other projects
3) just let the game die. You made the money, learn the lessons and move on. Spend no more.
Feels at the moment they are going for option 2 which is reasonable even though we all here would love to see option 1.
The marketing strategy does seem very odd and short sighted, makes you wonder really. When I was back in Scotland I did see TV adverts/commercials being played in October time-ish (which must have cost an absolute fortune) but not really much else on social media or anywhere else.
In terms of content and maps... well I think we all agree it is much needed... I am struggling to find enough things to do... and the rewards/currency system is so messed up that there seems little point in terms of reward for half the month.
In the end if things don't improve (actual things to do and the currency nightmare) I think even me (who doesn't play anything else) may be eventually bored into the ground.
Fingers crossed it all comes good in the end, I would be really disappointed to see this game fail and die ☹️

Me too. I have a stupid amount of coins in GW2 for example, as I would occasionally buy coin packs just to show support for the game (and to buy a ton of sticker packs during boss hunts). The only things I've missed Rux's store so far are 2 gestures when I couldn't login to the game for a a little over a day. I also blitzed through a lot of coins in GW1 at times too.
There's no question some of us will buy pretty much everything they offer; I like supporting the PvZ games and have OCD (which is why I quit World of Tanks), but that's not universal. A lot of games have customizations for sale and it must work or you wouldn't see it as much as we do, but PvZ does a better job of it as some games want you to pay money for the dullest things ('ooooh, 5 bucks for a slightly darker uniform? I'll pass').
