Does PvZ Heroes Facebook linking work?

I have an old iPad with much progress and purchases for PvZ Heroes.  I want to transfer to new iPad, different apple account.  I tried linking to EA account but it says not allowed due to age restriction... I guess I input the wrong age when I launched the game the first time?  I tried Facebook account and it did let me log in and link my account.  However, on new device after successfully logging in it's not retrieving my previous progress.  Any tips?
