Engineer needs to be rework.

Do you know what engineer players is doing? Just build turret and keep shooting at the objective point without entering. Every engineers. Of course, even if plants try to defeat him, be killed by turret and stun ability with pirates. He can earn a kill without entering the target point. No risks. Is that really fair fight?
So he needs to be rework. He is a support character.


Primary should be separated direct hit damage and explosion damage. Direct hit is 12 (critical 17) and explosion is 10, total 22(27) damage.

Turret duration is 20 seconds and cooldown is 45 seconds. Cooldown starts immediately after use turret.

Stun loudspeakers will disappear after 10 seconds, but react 0.1 second earlier. Increase the speedup booster time by 1.5 times.

  • The only thing i don't understand is the bouncy projectiles. Now 200 IQ Engineers just camp on the other side of that ship on early Turning Point and bounce projectiles all day.

    The complete overhaul of the engineers is an interesting change, but ultimately it leaves them fragile to drones. It feels as if Popcap tried to create a Demoman (TF2) for PvZ. I also do not understand why they would want to move away from the GW series. An engineer had range and splash damage in the previous games. Why make it into bouncing projectiles? Also, hitting a drone is even harder now as an engineer.

    But now the turret. I don't know whoevers idea it was to be able to shoot infinitely with a turret up, but that person made a grave mistake. As stated above, engineers can just sit back, put a turret in a position that no1 can see or damage, and just stay in the buff radius in order to have infinite ammo. Granted, it does lock you down at 1 position, making you vulnerable.

    However ,it is still too broken. Furthermore, if you drop a turret it has an infinite duration (OP?) and on top of that the ability's cooldown starts to count at the moment you place one. How did this pass testing? If you play cautiously, you can protect your turret at all times AND replace them constantly AND have infinite ammo. Makes sense?

    Edit: also stun lasts incredibly long.

  • @Provin915 Players are starting to figure this out too. I encountered one yesterday. They camped just inside the overpass of Goopy Gully stage 2, and shot towards the mine entrance. They were out of view, so they didn’t have line of sight, but their bouncing ammo allowed them to hit plants entering the mine. I thought it was quite clever, but it was ultimately futile.
  • @shoulder666 This isn't a rework, these are just straight up nerfs aside from turret duration being added (which I'd personally rather the aura just be removed).
  • Whoever designed the new engineer must have had sinister intentions! Spammy primary weapon, auto aiming ai, long PAINFUL stuns, he's the whole package!  😞 Heheh yeah though, he definitely does need a rework. Currently he's the perfect example of how to make a character unfun.

  • If anyone thinks Engineer needs nerfing and not Scientist or Space Station, I’d have to respectfully disagree.

  • I would recommend  playing the chomper missions in mount steep against the Engineers a few times with each character. It won't take long before you are beating Engineers with Sun Flowers.

    No Nerfs.
