Favorite and least favorite maps.

In the interest of keeping conversation going, and to keep them aware we care about the series so they know we want a new game, this time let's talk maps. To be honest, there's only 1 map between all 3 games I genuinely dislike (at least for certain modes), but the fact that I don't hate any of them is unique among online shooters. What are your favorite and least favorite maps by type (G&G/TT is one category, the other modes in another). and game?

GW1-Favorite G&G map: Cactus Canyon. To be fair, it's close for me between this one and Driftwood Shores, but it wins slightly over the minigame with the giant golf ball at the end, and just the general setup.

GW1-Least favorite G&G map: Wall-Nut Hills. I know this won the contest for which map should be in GW2, but it's too easy to cheese that last point. It's still a decent map, but I prefer the others over this one.

GW1-Favorite Mixed Mode map: Crash Course. The mix of the golf course, crashed Zomboss equipment, and the suburban environment all work together to make it an enjoyable map that is great to look at too.

GW1-Least favorite Mixed Mode map: Sharkbite Shores. This map isn't actually bad, just the least exciting of the bunch.

GW2-Favorite TT map: Moonbase Z. Zombopolis has the most stunning visuals and is a close second for me, but Moonbase Z has my favorite end minigame, I love the way it changes from normal to low gravity so you have to adjust as you go, and the fact we're on the moon add up to be my favorite.

GW2-Least favorite TT map: Seeds of time. Again, not a bad map and some of the jokes (like 'game of thorns') are good chuckles, but it has the least compelling reason to fight, and the minigame is easily disrupted by the plants.

GW2-Favorite Mixed Mode map: Frontline Flats. This map reminds me of the best aspects of GW1 but also brings its own GW2 take on the subject. It's a great looking map with some verticality and a giant laundry 'shoot' that brings the kind of silliness I want in my games.

GW2-Least favorite Mixed Mode map: Time Park. This is possibly the only map in the series I don't actually like, at least for team vanquish and vanquish confirmed. It's too easy for one team to camp one of the regions and setup turrets to quickly vanquish anyone that enters via one of the portals into that region. It's fine for Ops, Gnome Bomb, and Suburbination though.

BfN-Favorite TT map: Peachy District. This map feels the most like the original PvZ game and like many of the GW1 maps in its theme. It has some verticality thanks to the rooftops and feels the least restrained for maneuver.

BfN-Least favorite TT map: Loggy Acres. This map feels so restricted on how it plays. I have won and seen zombies win on the last point but it's a very easy spot to defend most of the time, but if the zombies do break it, it tends to collapse and the zombies can steamroll.

BfN-Favorite Mixed Mode map: Daisy Drive. Another map that I know the devs themselves have indicated was based on a GW1 classic. It has a nice mix of locations and a decent mix of height levels which makes battles on this map interesting.

BfN-Least favorite Mixed Mode map: Oozevoir. Unlike some people, I don't hate this map and the idea is at least amusing and fitting to PvZ, but it feels heavily channeled towards the center and is a bit reminiscent of Time Park.

  • @Iron_Guard8 Now see my favorite map of all time was Time Park, as it was small with tons of action. My reason for hating Oozevoir was initially due to both teams just camping on each side so I spent the whole game running from side to side trying to find people...since the addition of bots my hatred went up 3 notches due to AI playing bouncy bouncy aimbot on the pink stuff making for a really crappy time. Literally AI spends most of their time bouncing around instead of looking for kills.

I've had so many bad matches of Team Vanquish and Vanquish Confirmed on Time Park. Some took forever as one side camped one of the regions and no one wanted to attack as they'd just feed the enemy team so it just dragged on and on. Occasionally you'll get a group that can charge in and kick them out but it takes coordination which is no mean feat in an online shooter like this, so it's rare. It's just to easy to go as a pea gatling or other turret mode and gun down anyone who enters while they're still acclimating to the portal arrival. Neat idea that doesn't work out so well in practice.

  • IMO in Loggy Acre's last point, zombie should have no bomb at first to take control over the map by all zombies.

The route to the goal is so long that only few zombies will never get the goal.

  • @Iron_Guard8 I don't remember many maps from the gw games, so I'll focus on BfN. I only remember liking most maps from gw1 and way fewer from gw2. I really liked the ice map in that game, though.

    BfN favorite maps:
Preserve Pastures - awesome visual style, map layout, best in class soundtrack, creative ending gimmick, awesome cutscenes at the end(even if unbalanced)

(Tourist Trap Island - I really like it but it has a few issues. takes long to load, has more lag than the other maps and the ending animation is terrible done. It feels so unpolished)
Oozevoir - expect in ops and such where it doesn't have the goo, making it difficult to navigate the map. I like that it has a lot of strategic potential.

Here are my favourite and least favourite maps in each PvZ Shooter:

GW1: I have stated this before, but if I am being honest, I have never actually played this shooter before, but I have seen gameplay of it previously.

    Gardens and Graveyards

    • Least Favourite: Cactus Canyon.
    • Most Favourite: Wall-Nut Hills.

    Other Modes

    • Least Favourite: Zomboss Estate.
    • Most Favourite: Garden Center.

This site was used to help me determine which maps were my least and most favourite, as I have not played the game yet: https://gardenwarfare.gamepedia.com/Maps

GW2: I thought all of the maps were quite fun and most of them are unique, that is a bonus right there. I do not dislike any of the maps. I really like the snow-themed maps, but the low gravity maps are a bit annoying. They are fine though and I still like them.

    Turf Takeover

    • Least Favourite: Moon Base Z
    • Most Favourite: Great White North.

    Other Modes

    • Least Favourite: Lunar Landing.
    • Most Favourite: Frosty Creek.

BfN: My ratings of these maps can vary a lot, but overall I like all of them. The maps in this game are really quite different compared to in the other games, so my ratings are different overall. These were some hard choices - not gonna lie!

    Turf Takeover

    • Least Favourite: Loggy Acres.
    • Most Favourite: Goopy Gully.

    Other Modes

    • Least Favourite: Oozevoir.
    • Most Favourite: Rocky Flats (not because of the cheese).

That's it. This is based off of the design, but also because of the gameplay (except in GW1 because I cannot give reasonable explanations as of to why).
