I was trying to get your attention when I noticed we were in the same Ops Match, I kept doing emotes and stuff 😂
And for sure, I'll shoot you a friend request 👍
@iluminatethesky I saw and was emoting back! Had to get Chomper challenges done and got most in those ops, even with the bouncing back and forth.

Chomper was the easiest Challenge, imo. Acorn was kinda a pain, and I saw the other Challenges for Imp and Space Cadet. Not really looking forward to those, lol.

@iluminatethesky dont worry about the space cadet one, we did it last week and its not hard and you'll get it done pretty quick in Pve 🙂

I read the challenges for Space Cadet, and they seemed like a pain to get done :P
I'm still trying to decide between Imp and Space Cadet for next week

@iluminatethesky
Hahahaha 😃 well I didn't say they weren't a bit of a pain,
what character challenge isn't a bit, particularly if its a character you don't play often, but I promise they are not that hard 😃 - iluminatethesky6 years agoLegend
Acorn wasn't too bad, but it took some time doing the Sap Trap kills/damage, and the Barrel Roll damage.
I was trying to get these done in Multiplayer Ops, and it took longer since there was other people doing the same challenges 😛

Did Space Cadet last week and Chomper this week, not sure if I'll do Imp or Acorn next. Going to be a bit before I get the corn upgrade as I'm completing each page completely of the map before moving to the next one. Not in a huge hurry though either, as I'll get the map done one way or the other.
It does look cool and I love some of the effects they've added to some of the really nice outfits and abilities in the game (with very few exceptions), but to be honest I'm really looking forward to the Wizard and Berry Brigade and future characters the most. Still liking the idea of the legendary upgrades a lot.

I managed to get the corn thingmajig a couple of days ago... outfits kinda cool and he is ok so far, further playing needed but don't play corn that often.... but... the noise his gun makes is rubbish.... like a pop gun or something, I was rather hoping for a commando corn kinda sound so Im kinda disappointed a wee tiny bit 🤔🙂
Edit: @Iron_Guard8 yep I'm looking forward to the Wizard and future characters and upgrades too 😃 - 6 years ago@iluminatethesky If it helps any I did the Chomper challenges on my account and helped my son with Imp on his account and I finished both sets in about the same amount of time.
I have a lot of fun with the Imp in general but having to do the challenge of getting 10 instances of multi-vanquishes with the Mech self-destruct was really super fun and I can see that one possibly setting a dangerous precedent by training people how to effectively bail out of their Mech and immediately toss Gravity Grenade to trap Plants in the detonation. - iluminatethesky6 years agoLegend
I had fun with the Chomper challenges, they were pretty simple.
I was curious about how to go about doing the Mech challenge for Imp, that one seemed like a pain. I was thinking of just doing Solo Ops and doing that with a group of enemies.
Usually I pick the easiest challenges to do first when these character challenges come out, and leave the more time consuming ones for last.
- 6 years ago@iluminatethesky I'm only one character challenge away from getting the upgrade, but perhaps less if I got online more often... XD

I'm a completionist, so I try to finish everything as soon as possible. Plus, I like to have bulbs left over for the next Prize Map so I can get a head start and don't have to grind as much :P
- 6 years ago@iluminatethesky I did that one mostly in Ops and then in Giddy Park and the general PvE areas to finish it off.
In Ops it's as simple as calling your Mech, striding into a group of three or more Plant enemies, ejecting and then waiting for the detonation- a well placed Gravity Grenade will keep your targets in place.
It's rather satisfying to self-destruct and see six or eight AI enemies, or three or four spawn campers in Giddy Park, all get taken out at once. - iluminatethesky6 years agoLegend
Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated 🙂
- 6 years ago@iluminatethesky I've done Imp, Space Cadet & Chomper so far between mine & my son's accs & didn't have a major problem with any of those.
Like @realitysquared I did Imp in a mix of PvE battling & Ops. A game of Ops will give you most of the xp as well as a bit of all the other challenges just through normal play.
Shooting Squash in Weirding Woods with Imp Blasters will take a nice easy chunk off the damage challenge 🤣 - iluminatethesky6 years agoLegend
I feel like Imp and Space Cadet are more time consuming than the others, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since we only get one key per week.
And I always go back to that Squash in Weirding Woods when I need to deal Damage, hahaha

@ToastedSarnie @iluminatethesky
The first battle chest is Weirding woods is great for getting zombie challenges done too... the ones with the acorns and oaks... use this one a lot... I think @Iron_Guard8 does too.... lots of damage to be done there 😃 - 6 years ago@asabaida Yes, that's a good one!
- iluminatethesky6 years agoLegend
Ah yes, those Battle Chests...those were a pain to finish too, haha
- 6 years ago
Doin space cadet took longer last week, than chomper, chomper i did in 2 ops runs.
Got that update, but didn,t tried yet, but feels better by sound and impact already.

Way back when we had the 80s challenges for multiple rocket vanquishes, it was the easiest way I found to do so.

I unlocked this finally the other night and had the time to run it through a game of Ops along with a little goofing around in Giddy park .
I really like the costume, and as for the altered combat mechanic I think it's a little mixed for me right now.
The new primary weapon fire reminds me a lot of Commando Corn from GW2 and that was one of my favorite Corn variants so this Upgrade gives a feeling of familiarity while at the same time taking some getting used to in terms of the new rate of fire and the way it feels in action. There's just something more satisfying about the default rapid fire cobs.
I think, for me at least, the shield isn't something I'm going to use very much because it feels pretty fragile in use and I'm not sure I like the camera re-positioning because with the shield and the camera low and to the right it feels different from where it goes for every other character when aiming and I have to noticeably correct away from where I naturally want to place reticle. I expect that it won't get a lot of use from me because I ran through most of an Ops game without using it's meager protection until I suddenly remembered it existed when I saw a Deadbeard or a SuperBrainz winding up a shot. In Giddy park a sniping Deadbeard on the Wonder Wheel shattered it multiple times with a single shot and while it regenerates quickly I have to wonder if it's worth more than the occasional "Hail Mary" gesture against incoming fire.

A quick addition to my last comment-
I was able to complete a full game of Turf Takeover using the new upgrade and the experience has confirmed for me that the shield provided to Corn by the upgrade is essentially useless outside of PvE.
Under competitive circumstances against other actual players the shield crumples almost immediately when subjected to direct fire, however because the shield covers only the upper portion of the character most players have already adopted the tactic of firing at the lower half of the character which is not covered by the shield.
Based on my evaluation the Upgrade is not worth the five (5) Upgrade points which it costs to equip because the main motivation to place it into your loadout is to gain access to the shield. Because the shield, in it's current iteration, does not provide the expected level of protection and because Corn's DPS is not significantly changed by the alteration of his primary fire I think the cost is too high.
Yes, you can shoot through the shield but at the same time an opposing player can shoot you by aiming under the shield. I also understand that the shield is functionally weaker than those provided to either Citron or Super Brainz because neither of those characters retain the ability to fire while using their shields but I think it's too weak- especially when compared to the All-Star Dummy Shield which is much stronger, which protects from all directions, and which allows multiple characters to stand within and fire.
I think that I'll be reverting to my standard loadout for Kernal Corn for now and reserve this "Legendary Upgrade" for another try when, and if, they adjust the mechanics.

I'm almost done with this month's map and barring incident I'll be getting the upgrade tonight as the character challenge resets. Looking forward to trying it out. It's looking like it's not OP and is more of a preference thing which is nice to see as it appears to be the way forward for variants and since GW1 we've had a lot of issues with variants being too good or too weak.
- Iron_Guard86 years agoLegend
Got it last night after finishing the Acorn challenges. I didn't play with it much but it's a nice way to introduce variants as it can made to cost variable upgrade points based on their effectiveness. The shield didn't seem to help a lot against AI in Mount Steep but at least since it covers the head it can protect against crits. Looking forward to more of these upgrades in future.
- 6 years ago@realitysquared Guess Popcap did a good job with this one! It really is balanced and more of a preference thing.
