Foot Soldier V.S Kernel Corn
Kernel Corn V.S Foot Soldier
Primary Comparison
Foot soldier and kernel corn have very similar primaries. The foot soldier has his rapid fire Z-1 Assault blaster which deals 6 damage per shot and deals 7 damage upon a headshot. Kernel corn also has his rapid fire cob busters, they deal 5 damage for a body shot and 6 damage for a headshot. Foot soldier has a higher Dps than kernel corn giving him an edge in battle. Foot soldier has a very good upgrade that will increase the fire rate of his weapon in an insane amount. The upgrade is called rapid fire and costs 3 upgrade points, this upgrade will increase foot soldiers fire rate by 6 Rpm every time he fires giving him a max increased Rpm of 700, you need to take at least 25 shots to reach the max Rpm, Soldiers normal Rpm is 550, so this upgrade can increase his Rpm my 150. This upgrade is very powerful and will greatly increase your TTK. Meanwhile, the kernel corn does not have any such upgrades that will increase his TTK outright. For round one I give the point to the Soldier for having The higher Dps and TTK.
Ability Comparison
ZPG V.S Shuck Shot
The ZPG is the soldier's ability on the right, this ability does 175 damage for a direct shot and does 50 splash damage. The ability has a few seconds charge up time, allowing you to aim at your target. This ability can one shot any plant excluding the Oak and Citron, The citron and oak are very easy to hit with the ZPG as they are large targets. If the citron is in the ball form it is nearly impossible to shoot him, but if he is in the assault mode he will be very susceptible. The shuck shot is the Kernel Corns ability located on the right, The shuck shot now fires 2 cobs in a row, unlike in GW2 and GW1 where he fired them both at the same time. Each shuck form the attack will deal 90 impact damage and 35 splash damage. Adding up to a total of 180 damage. The ZPG wil deal all of its damage in 1 shot, and if you miss, you have no chance to deal any damage with that ability for 20 seconds, and you will miss out on damage you could have done while shooting the ZPG. The ZPG can also be used as a combo with rocket jump, allowing you to jump in the air and fire your ZPG, making you an almost impossible target to hit while shooting your ZPG. The Shuck shot allows you to shoot two cobs in a row, allowing you to miss one cob, but still deal damage with the other. This ability will give you some reliance if you miss a shot, it will give you another chance, it might kill the enemy with 90 damage, but it may not, the will lower the enemies HP, allowing you to get the vanquish. When you fire the shuck shot you will move indefinitely slower and will be vulnerable for a few seconds. The abilities both have their weaknesses and strengths. The ZPG can deal better damage with one chance, and the shuck shot can deal more damage while being required to hit two shots or deal less damage with an extra chance. I give round two to the shuck shot (I prefer ZPG Imo, but I have gotten way more deaths due to the shuck shot and I am mostly rating it on how easy it is to get kills with). Fun Fact: ZPG stands for “Zombie Propelled Grenade”.
Husk Hop V.S ZPG+Rocket Jump.
Husk hop is the middle ability for corn, and arguably his most powerful ability. Husk Hop makes kernel corn jump in the air and fire husks. The husks deal a great amount of damage, and can be focused in one area, if all the husks hit an enemy, they will be killed. Husk Hop combined with butter bean can one shot any zombie, excluding the space station and Z-mech. Rocket jump is the Soldier's ability in the middle, and it is mostly used with the ZPG to make the soldier an almost impossible target to hit while firing the ZPG. While the ZPG does only do 175 damage it is less easier to escape as for husk hop you can just move to the side, or use an escape ability (I.e Dynamite Dodge, Hyper Jump Thump, Outta fight.). With the ZPG, all you need is good aim, and with husk hop you need right timing, and luck. Husk hop is very effective against imps with their low health and no escape abilities (except the Z-Mech). Husk hop is also effective against large targets such as space stations, z mechs, and all stars. If you manage to trap an enemy in a corner, you can use husk hop just a little bit in front of them, and that will almost guarantee a kill as the enemy can not run away and husk hops damage is insane. Husk can also be used for escape if you are at low health as if you do not focus husk hop onto one area, the ability will carry you a long way. ZPG and husk hop can also be used to help control areas in turf takeover and suburbination as no zombie will walk into a husk hop willingly. While ZPG is less useful as it can only damage one target for 175 with a direct hit and 50 splash damage for everybody else. While they have to be extremely close together to achieve this it is still possible. I give the point to husk hop for having a higher damage output, and generally having more uses.
Super Stink Cloud V.S Butter beacon.
Butter beacon is kernel Corn’s ability located on the right, this ability sends out a beacon that will show your whole team the location of the zombies caught in the butter beacon. And as a plus, you will deal extra damage with cob busters, and shogun guard if you have it equipped. You will deal 6 damage for body shot unlike the regular 5 and 7 damage for a head shot unlike the regular 6. With shogun guard, you will deal 13 damage for a body shot unlike the regular 11 and 17 for a headshot, unlike the regular 13. The super stink cloud deals 1 tick damage, the ability lasts 15 seconds and has a 30 second cooldown. The stink cloud’s main use isn't to deal damage, but to obstruct enemy vision. Plants cannot see through the clouds, but zombies can, the zombies can shoot the plants and the plants will not be able to see who is shooting them. This ability is also very useful in turf takeover modes as you can place the stink cloud into the capture point and no plants will go into the cloud even though it doesn't have very high tick damage. This cloud will restrict a point of the capture point allowing your team to pick people off easier and capture the point. This is a hard decision as both abilities are good in their own way, butter beacon is very useful in battle arena modes as there are only 4 people, and butter beacon makes it easier to find people. While stink cloud is almost useless in battle arena, unless it is used when playing offensive or running away. I give the point of butter beacon for being able to achieve much more and being able to act as a radar, and help indirectly deal more damage.
Conclusion
Kernel corn wins because of his better and more reliable abilities, foot soldier does have a better primary but when fighting a kernel corn with all of his abilities foot soldier will most likely lose the fight, if a foot soldier fights a kernel corn with abilities he will most likely win. Foot soldier has the most powerful primary, but kernel corn has better abilities, and abilities are not always reliable, so I say each character is good in their own way. (kernel corn does deserve a damage buff though). Thank you for reading, if you have any feedback, or if I have made any mistakes please feel free to let me know!
