Gems Advice

I've been playing for about a week, and I'm loving the game, but I feel card-starved,and those gems just come too slowly. I'd like to start experimenting with various decks

but I lack the cards to do so. I've been slowly advancing in the Ranked and doing my daily quests and single-player but it seems to be that the Premium pack

gives the best bang for the gems.and It's going to take a while to get 1,000 gems. Are there any options to gain gems a bit quicker,as I'm starting to encounter harder decks

in the Ranked, that I have trouble dealing with.

That somewhat helps, but the hardest card I'm running into is a 9/9 Zombie card, which destroys all plants when it's placed.

The actual card isn't a problem as I usually have plenty of single-target damage to deal with it,but having to start over in the late stages of the game

is hard,to say the least,as by that point I'm usually very low on options to draw more cards.

Luckily, they just released a big update which should give you more to do, and more interesting ways to get gems/cards.

Try skewing your cards to the higher end (higher average cost). And try to mix in more cards that extend the match.
