I disagree with you entirely. I've found PvZ's unlock system way more entertaining and balanced than any other game to date. I'm sorry that you couldn't unlock the entire game in 30 hours but if you're looking for a game to be 100% complete in 30 hours, then this might not be the game for you.
Making players invest 100+ hours to unlock all gameplay content through RNG isn't good design from a competitive stand point. I won't stop playing PVZGW2 once I have all the unlocks. I don't continue to play PVZGW2 for unlocks either. I play it simply because it is a fun game. It would just be more fun if the game didn't lock it's content behind a grind which will inevitably lead to a "pay real money to get coins in order to gamble and bypass the absurd unlock system"

Still complains about not having all things unlocked the first week the game comes out.You do realize that part of the game is collecting things right? Snow globes, character accessories, gnomes, CHARACTERS.
Gears of war does not have collectibles aside some forced dog tags in maps or whatever.
Pokemon X .... hmm did you complain you don't start the game with zapdos right away? What about that poor scrub who plays pokemon that ONLY likes shiny mew, but hey.. Is it up to the game company to give everyone a shiny mew?
No. If they want to use 1 specific character class you should have to work for it.
(Using pokemon analogy because you brought up that game.)- 9 years ago@iEmulatedi , handing out unlockables through RNG is not "working for it". Having to master a plant or zombie to unlock it next variant would be "working for it". But you missed one of my main points. In a balanced online competitive game you shouldn't have to work for it to use it. You should have to "work for it" to be good at it/with it. A specific example of "working in for it" is spending 12 hours in the training room with Ryu to learn combos.and specific timing or playing hundreds of online matches in Pokemon while learning to tweak your teams moves or mons' to ensure a better win rate.

Look at DOTA > Everything is unlocked
Look at League of Legends > You have to either grind for unlocking characters by choice or buy them with monies OR buy a mystery box which is RNG
Look at Battlefront > Grind EXP for skills/cosmetics
Look at Counterstrike > Weapon Skins (Either buy them on market, or open a crate with RNG)
Look at WOW > Kill a boss, get random loot / Win an arena match, get random loot
Look at PVZGW > Grind coins, open sticker packs, get parts of or entire characters/cosmetics
Look at EvE Online > Kill rats in a belt, get random loot
RNG is not a new concept, nor a bad thing in a game that is about collecting and having fun.
