It's a great game, I'm just calling out it's crappy unlock system. I will not be a PVZGW2 apologist. I just don't think it's fair that I already Mastered 3 Roses (and 2 imps) while some other players are almost level 200 and are yet to obtain a second Rose, second Imp or whatever is top tier or what they are effective at playing with.
This isn't about salt or skill level. It's an objective look at an RNG unlock system for a competitive game people already paid $80 for
If PVZGW2 had a sponsored competitive tournament they would be forced to play the welcome mat or provide hundreds of consoles that have profiles which have already unlocked all playable characters and abilities because it's unbalanced at a competitive level to have people not have access to these things.
- 9 years agoListen doods. He is the one who brought up skill level. Not that it matters because our opinions based on balance through RNG should have nothingto do with skill but I am gonna toot my own horn here and say that a 8:1 K/D ratio with the Imp is actually really good 😛. But please, let's stay on topic here.
P.S. have you heard of the term "min/maxing"? If you haven't then you don't understand why people are leveling up the Rose while she is OP - 9 years ago
I stand by my first post.
Commit Sodoku, rose player 😉 - 9 years agoGoes to a competitive PVZGW2 tournament in which every player gets 400,000 coins to buy characters. Welp, it's a fair and balanced tournament because all players have the same RNG odds. Lolz.

Tournaments probably will be done in the Welcome Mat. Because anywhere else you can use character upgrades, which are earned by playing a character. As I said before a variant doesn't give you any extra skill. I've seen Iron Citron be destroyed and dominate alike. It's all about the player using the character. Not which variant you use.

To be honest that actually sounds like a cool idea, each team member gets 400,000 coins.
12 players x 400k
Then the players swap controllers and use what best suits them and they use what they are best at with what they have in front of them.
It would be a really awesome take on the whole 'DRAFT' part of a dota match for example 🙂
Thanks for the fantastic idea man! I knew you'd turn around on how sweet RNG can be - 9 years agoLolz, The DOTA and LoL draft is awful. And yes it comes down to skills and not characters. But you can't deny things like tier lists, frame data, etc. You will never see a player in the top 1% win an Evo tournament with a Hakan (SFIV). Skill is important, but so is character balance. You will never get true balance with a roster of over 50 characters let alone a 100. The only 100% "balanced" game would be a a team sport video game in which both players use the same team and playbook, or I guess a fighter in which each player played the same character or a shooter in which everyone used the same character and load out.
- 9 years agoPeople spend hundreds of hours training in the combo lab and then you RNG them on which character they pick. Sounds awful lolz
