Greatly disappointed!!!!

I couldn't wait for this game to come out. My son and I talked about this game for months and we were absolutely in love with the first version. Now after playing this version I almost wish I never spent the money on it. The characters are insanely slow to maneuver, there are bugs within the software, characters are cut in half at times, the music for the game is too low and there is a TREMENDOUS power imbalance with certain characters. In my opinion, the plants are waaaaaaaaaaaaay overpowered! For example, the rose can kill you with almost one shot from an incredible distance. Not to mention it can shoot like an endless machine gun. I tried multiple zombie characters and was literally within point-blank range of an opponent. The damage from my shots were very minimal in comparison to the plants that can blink and eye and kill you on the spot. Plus the ammo dries up like nothing else with horrendous reload times. It makes it quite obvious why the majority of my matches end up on the Zombie team. Not like the first game when you can toggle back and forth between teams. Not to mention, once you're killed it takes forever to travel back to a battle scene. Reminds me of the running snail that hardly moves from the movie Monster's University. I almost wish the characters can whistle a taxi over to get there sooner. Then when a multi-player battle is over the closing scenes lack energy, there is nothing but weak sound effects or no music at all and weak closing videos. I remember quite well the fun and great verbal interaction kids had during the first version of this game. Now when you here the kids during a match you can immediately tell there is much less enthusiasm and more frustration.

Fix the power balance problem, speed up the pace a bit and let's get this thing going already. I totally understand character building...meaning, fight to earn better speed, better weapons, so on and so forth. In a nutshell, there was too much hype going into this release for it to fall short. Hopefully, there's a patch coming out to address these issues. You would have thought the BETA release would have worked out these kinks by now?

Fingers crossed...

  • Other than the Rose stuff (she can't one hit you by the way, or even close), it sounds like you may be suffering some video problems with the game that most aren't.

The Rose issue actually came about BECAUSE of the Beta. Some of the players decided she was too weak (even though she was perfectly fine) and they buffed her. They're releasing a patch to re balance her and a few of the other classes sometime next week as well as fix some of the bugs.

And the travel back to the current Graveyard/Gravestone isn't meant to be fast. Engineers, however, can still build a transporter to teleport you forward. As for the zombies being weak play some Graveyard/Garden Ops and level up your characters a bunch, and once you've gotten them to the adequate level you can upgrade it's damage, reload, speed, zoom, regen, etc. You can apply up to three upgrades per character and Garden/Gravestone Ops are really easy ways to gain levels once you've gotten a good multiplier going. Which you can do by playing through some of the quests.

I don't really know what you mean about low music levels and whatever this quote means. "...but weak sound effects or no music at all and weak closing videos. I remember quite well the fun and great verbal interaction kids had..."

The sound in the game is fantastic and audio balance like music and volume is completely under your control. That's something you can adjust now in the settings. And I'm assuming the last bit of the sentence is angled towards voice chat between people who played the game? EA really doesn't have any control over that whatsoever.

I disagree. If the shots are not killing you with one hit then the issue is related to the lack of response the game is giving when you are being shot upon.

The characters emulate running on ice. Allot of movement with no traction or distance gained. I am not referring to traveling between portals I am talking about moving within the board itself. It's slow...

Someone wrote the exact post I was going to. So I'll just say I agree with these points!

I'll pass until the patch comes out and see if that fixes the problems. Until then it's just too frustrating to play. I may avoid buying 'day one' releases next time as it seems to take months to fix multiplayer shooters these days.

I also like your point about when the matches end. I also find it oddly anti-climatic. Just a quiet falling down of the gravestones and you think 'was that it'?

No, I'm going to grant a "Me Too" because of the same I addressed in the other thread that I saw you in. This isn't a matter of skill or video lag. By one shot, he means seconds, in a matter of seconds, he will die when coming in contact with the rose.

As for the running part, in the beta everyone's movement speeds were up and it created a hectic battleground which was kind of fun. They stumped that idea and made everyone but the healers slower. A fine tune upgrade, I'll admit. But they never adjusted the maps. They are too big and it takes forever to get to the battle zone. It reminds me of another game I played once.

Trust me when I say that this guy isn't alone. Please don't defend this game when there are obvious issues in it, Rhen. I'm sorry but there's nothing to defend in its current state. I too am disappointed. I was having so much fun with my friend in Zombie Ops that I popped in the deluxe edition code after the match ended; then when I hopped into MP, I instantly regretted it. It was almost like a chore to get to the fight and to die right away. I can't return the game now and with the Division literally right around the corner, I have to say I'm very disappointed in the game. I know it will get fixed, but I'm just upset that I chose to buy it right away, especially since the Pre-Order bonuses came with the deluxe edition.

Best of luck to the Popcap team. I feel really bad for children like the OP's son, who wanted to play this game for the MP side of it.

Edit: Oops! forgot a complaint, yes YES YES. The sound is horrible. No you cannot edit it because it's written in the game's code. You can adjust how loud the in-game volume is when it activates during gameplay but you'll have to wait. Most of the time (In Vanquish confirmed) I'm just walking around while the sounds are quiet. I frantically adjust my headset and options but nothing works. It's the actual game itself. I never expected this game to be in the state it's in since the first game gave off such a great impression.

Defend what? That I'm not getting the same visual or sound problems that him, and apparently another are? Well, if it's not happening to me, I'm going to say it's not happening to me.

Now, the Rose stuff, that's BS (as in, it's BS they made her over powered and haven't nerfed her yet). But a LOT of what the original poster stated doesn't happen to me. If you don't like me saying that, tough noogies. =P

Anti-climatic with no music was a great way of putting it. Thank you for streamlining my thought. Sometimes the music comes on and other times not. Also, even with the volume turned up the music still comes in low with an uninspiring tempo. Doesn't give the same adrenaline flow as in the first game.

Before it burrows, take a look at the newer dive maneuver from the Chomper. It looks awkward and doesn't have the same nosedive effect like GW1. Yesterday my Chomper took a dive into the snow and rather than kick up dirt the graphics displayed broken wood as if we were fighting on a ship. I also had an issue with an All-Star and was literally on top of a Sunflower trying to blast it and sure enough it killed me with no effort. And I love when I'm being shot and have zero ability to move to the point of which I might as well respawn. Or in some cases not even knowing which direction the shots are coming from.

The packs are also lack quantity. You can tell during multi-player action how little flower pots are being utilized. I get it. Earn your stripes for character upgrades but at least give us some more bang for the buck for basic artillery.
