GW1 and GW2 support comparison

Garden Warfare 1:

- February 25, 2014: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was globally released on Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles. 

- March 5, 2014: Two new packs were released, the Incredi-Plant Pack and Vengeful Zomboss Pack. Also, Mixed Mode was introduced and the value of completing Team Vanquish, Welcome Mat and Classic Team Vanquish has increased.

- March 19, 2014: The first DLC update, the Garden Variety pack containing new abilities for each class was officially released. Also, over 100 new customization items were added, the new map Chomp Town was added with also a new gamemode (gnome bomb).

- April 15, 2014: Next DLC update, the Zomboss Down pack was officially released showing one new map (Cactus Canyon), new customization items (200+) and eight new characters (Law Pea, Sun Pharaoh, Armor Chomper, Bandit Cactus, Sky Trooper, Landscaper, Archaeologist and Wrestling Star). Character level cap increased from 20 to 30, with new star challenges to complete.

- June 30, 2014: Another new DLC update known as Tactical Taco Party Pack was released, containing the new game mode - Vanquish Confirmed! along with one new map (Jewel Junction) and two new characters (Berry Shooter and Citrus Cactus) .

- August 11, 2014: The new DLC update named Suburbination pack adding the Plasma Pea, Crash Course, Bling Packs, and new Suburbination game mode was announced to come out August 12. The two new bosses that were added to the game in this DLC were Baron von Bats and the Treasure Yeti.

- August 19, 2014: PopCap teamed up with producer of the popular Cheetos brand releasing two new Cheetos-based characters (Chester Chomper and Dr. Chester) that were available only through purchase of specially marked bags at Target store locations. Due to player problems with getting codes outside of Target, PopCap announced to make both new characters free on sept. 5.

- September 30, 2014: The Legends of the Lawn DLC pack was released, it contained new variants for all the characters except Peashooter (Alien Flower, Chomp Thing, Jade Cactus, Centurion, Sanitation Expert, Paleontologist and Golf Star). Also, this DLC introduced a new gamemode (Taco Bandits) and new customization items (200+) . Each character can now hit a maximum of Level 40.

- October 11, 2014: PopCap gave out a Halloween Trick or Treat pack for every day of October from this date, the packs contained Halloween related customization items, cosmetics and exclusive potted plants and Spawnable zombies Frankenshroom, Cat Dragon and the Pumpkin Browncoat.

- November 25, 2014: Turkey Attack Pack was distributed to everyone for free, which introduced a Thanksgiving themed new Spawnable Zombie: Turkey Browncoat.

- December 1, 2014: Joyous Holiday Packs are released in every day from 1-25 of December, containing Christmas themed customization, and three new consumables: Snow-Shroom, Cariboom and Holiday Browncoats. 

- March, 2015: PopCap announces the discontinuity on the game, with no more possible DLC's and updates to the game.

Garden Warfare 2:

- February 18, 2016: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is officially released on EA Access and Origin Access. 

- March 8, 2016: The Graveyard Variety Pack DLC is released, featuring a rework to Rose, balance changes and more. It also brings back the Garden Center, which is zombified and is now known as the Aqua Center. Added Hide n' Find and Bot & Pot missions to Backyard Battleground

- March 22, 2016: PopCap releases a special "Springening Pack" that includes new customization items, including hats for Kernel Corn and Super Brainz, to celebrate the forthcoming of Easter. 

- May 31, 2016: The Trouble In Zombopolis: Part One DLC is released, featuring the new Herbal Assault map Zombopolis, two new characters: Toxic Citron and Breakfast Brainz, and also a great amount of character balancing, along with 1,200 new customization items exclusive to a new sticker pack called Zany Zombopolis Pack. This update would also allow players to play the Boat Blast mini-game in the Backyard Battleground.

- June 30, 2016: The Trouble In Zombopolis: Part Two DLC is released, bringing back Community Challenges from the first game as well as the Progress-o-meter, where you can keep track of the community's progress and get rewards. It also includes new Delivery Challenges, which put the player in fast-paced time trials to get their best time.

- September 8, 2016: The Trials of Gnomus DLC was released, said to be the biggest content update in GW2 yet. It adds the Trials of Gnomus, A new currency: Rainbow Stars, New Mystery Portal in the Town Hall as well as three new game modes; Super Mix Mode, Cats vs. Dinos and Boss Hunt.  Added new characters (Torchwood and Hover-Goat 3000) and Rux's Bazaar, where a mysterious gnome called Rux will sell you random customization items you can buy for Coins. This update even brings the return of the first 8 classes' gestures from Garden Warfare 1. 

- October 18 - Halloween, 2016: The Lawn of Doom event goes live, which features a new character named Sleepy Bat, who offers daily challenges to players by finding a hidden key to unlock the Halloween-themed chest next to him, which contains a special Halloween-themed customization item.

  • The big difference is the number of new maps. With GW2 there was one new Turf Wars map way back in March, and that's it. I thought the point of the microtransactions was to help support the game, but it seems to be just for profit.

    They were making PvZ Heroes as well, somewhere in the mix. 

    Maybe they just didn't quite get the sales they had hoped for and thought it's best not to invest too much time into it?

  • Wow GW1 really had a lot more going on compared to GW2.  We really need some new maps.
