GW2 Code already used

So I bought PvZ GW2 for my son a few days ago.

Put the DVD in my computer, installed origin, created an origin account for him with his DOB and my email address as a parent.

He can logon within Origin but the code cannot be redeemed supposedly because it's already been used.

How can that be I just pulled it out of the box?

Another weird thing, although the account for son can be used to login to Origin on the computer, it cannot be used to login to EA to get help for this problem.

The online password reset function works and uses my parental email address but still can't login to the EA website with his account.

That's just plain stupid!

So I created another account, this one, again using my parental email address. Can't redeem the code for GW2 with this account either.

Just so I can logon to this website and post my question.

EA, help please!

My 10 year old has been looking forward for this game for more then 8 months.

And now I've bought it, it doesn't work!

Or does anyone know where I should go with this issue?

    @MrUltraTroll2

It may be possible it's already redeemed on the account you used?  If you log into the Origin application using that account and the PvZ:GW2 icon shows up under "My Games" then it is all good.

A key can only be used once and it's forever tied to that account (unless special circumstance or something at EA's discretion).

    ---

If you are sure it's not redeemed on your account, I'd contact EA here:

    https://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/new/

They should be able to check it out to see what's happening (if it's been redeemed before etc).

They may advise you to take it back to the retailer that sold it for a new copy.

They should also be able to help sort out your account problems between the parental account and child.

    ----

It isn't unheard of for customers or store employees to pop open game boxes and steal the key.  It's been going on for a very long time on PC since the only thing of value is that license/key to play the game.

    Best of luck.

Some retailers do not make certain that their employees do not attempt to resell games that are accepted for return.  Almost all retailers have their own vacuum sealing equipment to reseal products in.  Anyway, we here in Answer HQ are gamers, not EA employees.  We can't tell you when a given CD Key code was registered, nor examine anyone's player accounts to unravel some mixed up records.  All of that is done via the Game Advisers at EA Help Center.  See the link for a FAQ about it.

I'm having the same problem. I have checked my library - not there. Box came with 2 discs - one with pretty much nothing (disc 2) and the other (disc 1) has nearly everything. I read the instructions and it said that you were able to download a PC version or an Origin version. Since I had an Origin account, I tried that and when I put in the code, it said it had already been used. I then tried the PC download, and it said that to do so you must open autorun.exe. When I open it, it displays an Origin version. Game was new (not pre-owned) Is there another executable I have to open instead? Or is there only an Origin version? If so, why won't Origin work?
