History of Lawn of doom in pvz shooters

Lawn of doom is a very special time. It allows us to celebrate Halloween in the pvz universe.

However instead of candy we were given other goodies and those shall be talked about here ranging from cosmetics, npcs, and modes.

Gw1 gave us two reskinned potted plants and one browncoat known as the pumpkin browncoat.

We got the frankenshroom and cat dragon. While they got unique almanac entries they were the same in gameplay.

The pumpkin browncoat however also got a base health of 60, making him the strongest base browncoat in gw even with the other festive zombies.

We mainly got cosmetics of four for plants and two for each zombie.

Lawn of doom arrived in october 2014 and lasted from october 11-31St with unique sticker packs however happy halloween packs would still stick around for a week or two to buy for 30,000 coins.

Gw2 massively expanded lawn of doom on october 18th 2016 by introducing sleepybat an npc bat that can be found in the backyard that gives us a tracker minigame that leads us to free halloween themed rewards.

We were also introduced to a new boss hunt for zombies: The spooky squash.

We also got more consumables and pumpkin was changed to the more fitting jackocoat.

We got the halloweed equivalent for the base weed.

Pea witch, boo choy, haunted uplink bot, and mrs frankenstorm. All of them appear much more unique than gw1 festive plants especially uplink bot being turned into a trick or treat bucket.

Funny how we have a frankenstein in gw1 but only the mrs in gw2.

Bfn had lawn of doom in 2019 on october 1st.

Special Halloween themed prizes such as costumes, emotes, and victory slabs could be bought using Prize Bulbs.

Obtaining all of the Lawn of Doom prizes awarded the player with the "Super Scarab" costume for Super Brainz.

Lawn of Doom was one of the three events in bfn to feature a night variant of Giddy Park, with the other two being Summer Nights and Feastivus. So that's where the nighttime budget went.

Bfn easily has the best look with all the stuff added to the park which makes it feels much more lively.

However i think gw2 takes the cake here since the halloweeds and jackocoats join the struggle in the backyard and base defenders will even spawn in the festive pots/bots.

Spooky squash was an amazing boss hunt and sadly a reminder of why I hate the portal rotation so much. He was released the time a Xbox live free trial was happening. I loved joining in with all the other players who had no idea what the heck was going on and being hit head on with the difficulty spike.

He last appeared in November 11th 2019. Almost 3 years ago. Man it hurts so much. I will never forgive you for this Popcap.

If i knew how to code i'd try adding the darn thing back myself.

  • I love when they add these events, however small or large, and it stinks that the bat spot is there in our Backyard Battleground, but he's not showing up. When the game was full on, I remember logging on after work everyday to grab the quest and see what was in the chest. It's always nice to have rewards earned by playing the game like that, and having that extra holiday stuff just makes it all the better.

Lawn of Doom Giddy Park is my favorite Giddy Park, and some of the GW cosmetics are so good (like that zombie disguise for Sunflower is a personal favorite), but GW2 wins here hands down as you say. Spooky Squash was rough, and it took us several tries with 2 of us and 2 random folks each time to get craaazzzyyyy done, but I love it when they add stuff like that to the game, and wish new folks could experience all the boss hunts in their full glory, although I'd also like them to make them shorter (with adjustments as needed of course), so you don't get so frustrated at a failure after fighting for so long, which is common on the higher difficulties for the harder boss fights like the squash.

@Iron_Guard8I've heard about that bat issue, he was in my backyard on Xbox when I last checked two days ago.

Yeah the gw1 ones where the two teams wear a face of another teams character were some of the best like sunflower's zombie disguise and peashooter all-star. And then we have foot soldier wearing a gray replica of sunflowers entire face that isn't cartoonishly altered unlike the others for some reason.

All the gw2 boss hunts besides the gnomes had that massive difficulty spike and I do agree that it could get time consuming and frustrating if you fail or have people who don't know what they're doing. I think the gnomes did it well where teamwork makes it fly by but one player can also easily micro manage important steps if need be. Also helps that it was made to where colorblind players could still help.

I can see where bfn was trying to replicate the style with less difficulty in elite bosses but the problem is that they were practically braindead and not very unique. It didn't help it that bfn was permanently set to easy mode and there were no penalties for getting eliminated. Spooky squash just doesn't feel the same there.

I also really adore how gw2 spooky squash had all the plant npcs wear Halloween equipment. They really just went the extra mile in 2 and it made it more memorable.

  • I have to state that I enjoy all of the seasonal events that the shooters have to offer, although Halloween (Lawn of Doom) and Christmas (Feastivus) have got to be the best of them (at least for me).

If I am not mistaken, the Halloween Browncoats and Weeds have higher base health compared to their regular counterparts along with a reskinned look, meaning they are a direct upgrade and they are worth collecting as consumables. It is a nice touch seeing them appear in the backyard on their own and join in the fight as well.

I do not know how many players know about these, any Sticker Pack that you open during the Lawn of Doom Halloween Event will provide you with an additional sticker for free, essentially providing you with a sale with any pack you open. Knowing this, I have saved up tons of coins throughout this year so I can open hundreds of packs while they are on sale (ironically though I still need to do this).

The Sleepy Bat daily challenge is simple and quite fun to do, I recommend that players log in and complete the challenge each day as it does not take long to complete. I do it on most days, and while I already own all of the Halloween customisations, I receive a small stack of free consumables or occasionally a "Scare Pack" as well as a reward, which is a free unique sticker pack that does not normally appear in the sticker shop.

I really wish that Spooky Squash would stay for every Halloween. Again I always had lots of fun with Boss Hunts and I still hope to see it return. It was a well created event which fit the Lawn of Doom theme very well. Even if this event only appeared once a year for Halloween, I would appreciate that regardless and would be eager to play it every year. The reskinned enemies make the event more special (although does that mean the weeds have extra health?)

Lawn of Doom during Halloween, and the other seasonal events, are great fun!

    @TheSprinter85For me it would go:
    Lawn of doom
    Feastivius
    Easter
    Thanksgiving

The halloweeds are terracota weeds with 5 more health so I doubt they make too much difference unlike jackocoats which are twice the health of regular browncoats. All the pots and bots are reskins though. You also are fighting chomp thing during the hunt so they arguably have a weaker chomper.

Wouodve been cool if we got a ops wave with nothing but seasonal enemies that way you can rarely see them year round. Or activate bots in solo play to only spawn festive enemies.

They couldve easily made the boss hunts seasonal/holiday events: sasquatch: summer, brothers gnomus: spring, yeti: christmas/winter, spookysquash: fall/halloween. They couldve easily covered 4 out of 12 months here for a rotation but it was 2019 onward popcap so...

@stukapookaI have to agree, there are more options that the developers could have added with seasonal content so we could experience it more often throughout the year rather than having to wait.

Actually, there is the Luck 'O The Zombie event as well, and there is a gnome in GW2 that you can talk to, like Sleepy Bat, who will grant coin rewards if you complete a quest. I believe this event is in March.

At least seasonal events have plenty of content to explore.

In pretty much all versions of PvZ they've given us some fun and creative seasonal event, so I'd love to see more of these instead of less. I don't even use my seasonal consumables in GW since you can't even get them anymore, while we can buy packs of them in GW2 at least, but it would so much better to have these events back on in full, which is why I keep hanging around here and the Reddit, and considering the success of GW and GW2, why I'm still annoyed that there isn't even a rumor of a new shooter in the works.

Even simple events can be fun, and keep people around and playing. And in games whose main focus are the multiplayer matches, you really want folks to be active to keep a nice and healthy playerbase. Lawn of Doom is definitely my favorite though, the costumes in GW and GW2 alone make it worth it.

@Iron_Guard8 It's amazing how badly bfn killed any prospects of a future shooter for the known future. The fact that the game's servers have practically evaporated on steam and its fanbase and much less those with good will towards it have become nonexistent.

When it came out it definitely had some support among some fans but now its looked upon in disdain. Its almost impressive actually.

Seriously how the heck do you screw up suburbination that bad?

    PS4 player base isn’t bad actually .

also there’s no chance the game will be updated again right ?
