Hovergoat 3000 ability discussion

Hovergoat abilities

Damage Buff Booster Beam-default

Gw2 description: "Thanks to future technology that we don't quite understand, this beam can help an ally deal more damage!"

Hover Goat-3000 will attach an orange beam to a nearby zombie. The beam increases the attack damage of the attached zombie by 30%. It has no recharge. Cannoy be stacked. Gives affected zombies orange arrows to indicate that they're affected.

Mega awesome laser-default

Gw2 description: "This focused beam of light energy from the future can zap Plants super fast! Side effects may include slower movement and extra coolness."

Hovergoat will shoot a powerful beam but unlike sunflower he can still move around albeit slowly. 20 second cooldown.

Tubular Turbo-default

Gw2 description:

Hover Goat-3000's fancy hover board can release a blast of turbo particles that makes allies run faster if they're close to him when the blast is activated.

Hovergoat activates maximum overdrive for himself and every zombie around him. When activated ally zombies don't need to stay near hovergoat and can move freely. Have a trail affect behind them. Lasts 7 seconds and has a 25 second cooldown.

BEHOLD! The only good support character (sorry wizard but you do have problems) in pvz shooters! He's a decent character in terms of offense unlike the ridcoulosy op engineer. His speed boost doesn't require allies to pack in like sardines around him like rose, can still help allies even when he's using it to escape, and isn't an invincible get out of jail free card. His laser isn't as good as the sun beam in damage but the movement gained is extremely useful. His damage buff is unmatched in the series and is greatly used on any character.

How could they have the design of such a great character yet completely drop the ball in every other "support" character in some way?

I know some may disagree but I honestly think torchwood and hovergoat are some of the best designed characters in the series when it comes to their roles.

For fricks sake we put tv head in game but not arguably the best designed character in the series?!

  • On a side note, I love Wizard. He's one of the best designed characters in BfN, even with a few issues.

Hovewrgoat surprised me with how much I like the character. When we first knew who was in those chests, the fact that the zombie was a goat threw me off; 'A goat is not a zombie!', but it's definitely a great character.

Tubular Turbo is speed boost done right; unlike the double time of the BfN Engineer that is often useless. It's especially handy when moving to a new point while attacking in TT, and is useful at any time without worrying about where to put it.

The mega awesome laser is a slightly mobile turret mode which GW2 has an overabundance of, but it's not bad. It does what's on the tin.

The damage buff booster beam is great, and in GW2's heyday, you'd often see a scientist and a hovergoat latched onto another zombie, usually a foot soldier of course, keeping them alive and pouring out the damage. It doesn't give a huge boost, it boosts one player, and you have be fairly close to keep the beam on your ally.

You don't see the goat that often in multiplayer matches these days, but it screams support and its kit fits so well. I had come up with a few variants back in the GW3 discussion days on the GW2 forums (scapegoat and alpine goat were 2 I can recall easily), and I'd love for the goat to come back or at the least, have its kit migrated to a new zombie.

@Iron_Guard8Gotta love how quickly the community forgot about the series long history of zombie animals, including the ones used as weapons, when they discovered it was a goat and not gravedigger or gargantuar lmao.

Wizard is good but he also has a ton of problems that prevent him from being great.

I think they should just keep hovergoat rather than give his kit to a new zombie.

Turbo was so good and they never managed to recreate an ability as good again for support characters.

  • I do think that Hover-Goat 3000 is a cool character that I normally have fun using.

Here are my official thoughts on the abilities:

Damage Buff Booster Beam: Increasing the damage of an ally by 30% is great, as you can do this at any time while still attacking your enemies with your own firepower. I mean who said extreme damage was not fun, right? It seems like you can activate Mega Awesome Laser while damage boosting an ally and the Damage Buff Booster Beam will not be disconnected, however you will not be able to attach it to a different ally, and if it disconnects, you will not be able to attach it again until you have used this ability. As you can activate this ability at any time without a cooldown, try to always keep it on an ally for best results. You can use your Damage Buff Beam this on allies when they are about to use attacks and abilities that deal huge damage. Radical!

Mega Awesome Laser: Have you ever wanted a Sunbeam, Pea Gatling, Big Bolt Blaster or Cannon Rodeo ability although you can still move around? Well now you can with the all-new Mega Awesome Laser. It basically functions like any of these abilities, except that you can move around still, but more slowly than normal, and it has a time limit rather than ammo so just keep shooting to your desire, although it would be better if you attacked your enemies, wouldn't it now? You can use this when you need more damage output at the time, or to vanquish an enemy or enemies quickly. You may want to use it while near an ally as well, as you can first hook them up with some damage buffs and the beam will not disconnect if you keep close to them.

Turbular Turbo: If there's an enemy in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Turbular Turbo! This ability will give you a speed boost for a short time, as well as any allies close to you at the time that you activated this ability. Use this to bring you and your team into battle more quickly, or to escape your enemies if the situation gets dire. Gotta go fast! If you are feeling a bit out of place and lonely without your allies, and you do not want to make friends with your enemies, use this burst of speed to get back to your team and have a party, celebrate by vanquishing your enemies. Just do not tell your enemies about this party and they will never know what hit them. Apart from the damage from your team of course.

Anyway, the point is Hovergoat 3000's abilities are quite cool and makes him quite supportive. Although, I wonder how the Gargantuar Zombie that the developers originally intended on releasing would have gone?

    Again, Happy New Year!
