How to get abilities in GW2?

You get them from sticker packs.  Some might come quickly and some not for a long time.  There are also special alternate abilities sold in the sewers when Rux appears.  They are very expensive, and since it sounds like you're new to the game, you have better things to spend 500K coins on than an ability.
