If people didn't experience the game when it launched and checked it out only after playing the sequel, of course they aren't going to like the game as much as others who played it when it came out.
Sure, you can't compare it entirely because the lobbies aren't as full anymore, but @MrOoahOoah was able to get a clear picture of the mechanics, visual and audio design, as well as the maps rather objectively, because he doesn't have any nostalgia for the game.
In reference to your movie example.
I only discovered the "Halloween" movie series after watching Rob Zombie's Version and then Halloween H20.
I heard everyone thought the original Halloween was a masterpiece. So I watched it and fell asleep. I thought it wasn't good, although it is universally loved.
Everybody was talking about how well it created suspense and what not, but I just didn't find that to be the case after watching more modern films.
- @benn1nat0r The difference is, you are correct about Halloween, that whole franchise sucks...while GW1 and GW2 are masterpieces...everyone is welcome to their opinion regardless of how wrong it is.
