If it’s any consolation, Imp is invulnerable when he transforms and Acorn is not. 🤷🏼♂️

@spIash_damage There is a tiny window of opportunity where you can get him (or be gotten) right at the start of the Mech Call, just before you hear the dialing sound and he says "Brainz?" into the receiver.
After the dialing sound effect the transformation animation starts and he's untouchable until the Mech starts up.
I'm pretty sure that Acorn is also invulnerable during his transformation animation as well but the standout difference is that with the Imp the "call", where he's vulnerable, happens essentially in the blink of an eye and the animation, where he's invulnerable, is really long but with the Acorn it's the opposite with the "call" being really long and the animation happens super quick.
Looking at the Space Cadet there is essentially no "call" to transform into the Station and the animation falls somewhere between the Imp and the Acorn in terms of length of time and I'm pretty sure she's invulnerable during it as well.
It's almost like they wanted to place emphasis on the asymmetry of the various characters but I think Acorn definitely got the short end of the stick.

Maybe it's different in PvE but in BA, I CANNOT EVER inflict damage on an Imp starting the very instant the transformation button is pressed (notice how my splash damage inflicts zero damage):
Me as the Imp (notice the splash damage of the Peashooters simply stops hurting me the instant I hit triangle [PS4]):
Last night, I was an Imp and ran up to a Sunflower that I allowed to start shooting me and the second before I died, I transformed. Just as expected, ZERO DAMAGE the instant I hit triangle.
@realitysquared by all means, I'd LOVE to see ANY damage inflicted on an Imp in a video from you (or anyone, for that matter). I'm not being facetious or sarcastic toward you by making this post. I'm genuinely curious whether others can inflict damage and play the game in ways I cannot. Maybe my internet prevents me from doing things others can?EDIT: @EA_David - I just noticed that my Sap Trap only inflicted 15 HP on the Imp (in the first video). I would think the effect of the Imp bouncing up should indicate a perfectly timed detonation/should register as 125 HP?
- 6 years ago@spIash_damage You are correct in that it's functionally impossible to damage the Imp inside of his very short vulnerability window on purpose.
I only have anecdotal evidence but I have vanquished an Imp (just once) as he called his Mech but I was already aimed and firing and his Health was very low; I saw him pull out his device and put it up to his ear and realized I was about to have to deal with a Mech but then he fell over vanquished.
I did write that the chance comes and goes in a blink but you are correct that I was remiss in making clear that there's no way you could intentionally take advantage of it as a Plant- you've have to already be shooting him, landing your shots, and have him low enough in health prior to the Mech Call being initiated to be able to vanquish him, or more correctly finish vanquishing him, before he goes invulnerable during the Mech delivery animation.
