Improving Cosmetics - Costume Fusion, Useful Emotes, and more.
It would be blind of me to say that MtX is a bigger focus in this game than it was in GW2. And it isn’t working for the benefit of new players. In fact, it’s just predatory for newcomers.
But to ease the wounds of how the main form of progression is in this game, here’s a couple ideas I present. I’m starting to think me coming up with ideas is normal at this point.
Expanding the Use of Cosmetics:
There are plenty of awesome skins out there. But for the $10 price tag, or the 3 month grind, attached to some of them, you better get your money’s worth out of them. This ides just adds more value to each cosmetic that would justify the high grind and price tag.
-Parts of each skin can be inter-changed with other skins. Zombies could swap weapons with another skin’s weapons (scientist’s backpack is attached to the weapon, or you could inter-change them.). Citron, Corn, and Rose could also make use of this. Super Brainz could change his fists.
- Imp and Oak can choose multiple skins. One skin is for the small infantry form, while the other skin would be for the Heavy duty transformation.
- Because some plants don’t have weapons that they can change, they’d have to change a part of their body. For characters like Pea, Chomper, Snapdragon, Sunflower, and nightcap, they could be able to inter-change their bodies and heads.
- Since cactus doesn’t have the luxury for any of the ideas above, maybe let her choose what arm cosmetics she’d want separately. Other plants could also do this, like sunflower, pea, and corn.
- Also, let us toggle Legendary Hat effects. They can be annoying to skilled players, hearing them every 10 seconds.
Changes to Emojis, Tombstones, and Taunts:
I know this sounds dreadful to some people, changing Rux. But I’ll make this topic less painful for those who argue he should rip people off.
- Make tombstones, Emojis, and Punchers purchasable with coins. No one would ever buy stupid PNGs for 75¢ unless it were for a gacha game. These items are too insignificant to actually charge actual money for. You can still charge RS for them, but let coins be an alternate obtainIng method.
- Also make taunts obtainable through coins.
- Taunt Fusion. You can combine one animated taunt (that moves your body), one text taunt, and one emoji to put your own creative spin on a taunt that would actually give a lot more uses to emojis and text taunts, making people more accepting of how they’re filler in the festivals and reward-o-tron.
- Change the emote selection. It’s so clunky, and you have to sift through so much stuff to get the good stuff. And then you have to keep changing tabs whenever you want to say something or dance. I’d suggest taking inspiration from Fortnite’s selection. Fast, easy, almost instantly choose what you want to do.
- Taunt canceling. The main reason people don’t want to buy taunts is because they get punished for using them. If someone presses buttons while taunting, they can stop taunting and instantly get back into action. Sure, try-hards would be a bit more annoying. But it would still give more value to taunts if we can use them more.
Window Shopping:
Ooh, I really want this one! It favors both the consumer and the producer!
- For items currently in Rux’s rotation, let them be wearable in the customization booth while not being purchased. Players would be able to try on costumes or hats before they bought them. And you aren’t forced to wear the entire set. If a skin has a really cool hat, you can put it on, but put the mouthpiece of another item on alongside it.
- When leaving the customization booth with those items on, it will automatically revert the purchasable items you were wearing back to parts that will match your equipped costume set. (This avoids any exploits)
- You could put the player’s nameplate in the top right corner of the screen, and put the value of the items you put on so you know if you need to buy RS, or if you have enough to buy them now.
- Heck, maybe you could also do the same for Festival items, being able to wear them inside the booth only.
Again, while these ideas don’t fix the issues of useless coins and predatory grinding, it does ease the wounds.
As always, I’d love to hear feedback from either devs or players!
