I've have this problem too on PS4. I own the digital version of the game - the pre release version which upgraded to the release version when it came out.
If my son opens the game I can join as 2nd player, but if I open the game, it says he can't connect to EA servers.
Community AdminThank you for the info given. Can you toggle the account's privileges to full, restart the game and try again?

I've tried looking into the Xbox account and I can't find anything regarding privileges in the menus. I'm old, so you'll have to forgive my lack of tech-savvyness (not a word) in getting this done. Do I got to Settings / Account / Family Settings? I'm unable to find anything about account privileges on the Xbox.
