Is there a stats spreadsheet on classes and varients?

Might be the wrong place to ask this, but is there any reason to go with certain elements? Like Toxic? It does lower damage, with lower damage over time than fire. For the trade off that it does terrible damage over time to nearby enemies. Or like why choose any element at all when it'd be faster to vanquish an enemy through raw higher damage? I'm just wondering the strategic purposes for some variants.
