It's that time again

I don't here too often these days due to the state of PvZ in general and the shooters, especially the Garden Warfare games, specifically, but it's time to post about them again.

With over 3200 hours in GW2, it's my most played game ever, even more than MMOs I used to play and those games are designed to make you spend lots of time in them! I'm glad we can still play all 3 shooters, but it's past time to have a new one. I know EA is more focused on the sports games and the massive amounts of money those bring, but for those of us of a certain age recall a time when EA brought us gems like M.U.L.E., Mail-Order Monsters, Adventure Construction Set, Realm of Impossibility, and so on. We really need a new PvZ shooter and sooner rather than later.

Mattshea, a YouTuber with over 3 million subscribers recently played GW and then GW2 and the videos are doing pretty well for him, so once again, we can see that there's an audience for the games, and a new game would really help to drum up interest, but it has to be done well. I don't BfN like many do, but it did feel like a step back from its predecessors, barring a couple improvements to the UI (heat indicator and both a visual and numerical display of ammo remaining), and the ability to save builds with customizations, with a more friendly UI for customization than GW2 has. I'd love to see the old maps from GW, tweaked for balance and larger characters, the GW2 maps, and some new ones with more solo content and a larger backyard battleground (Giddy Park just did not work as well), and lots of PvP and PvE stuff to do.

It may just be wishful thinking, but these shooters have a lot of fans, and some have kids now that would love to play these games too, but we need new content and support that is currently lacking. I miss the days of checking on the progress-o-matic on my phone while at work, the more enjoyable mystery portals (like soil survivors and boss hunts), the dev sessions on YouTube, and so much more. The audience is there for it still, so let's have a GW3!

  • A gw3 sounds like a fun idea, but we all know it's not realistically happening no matter how much the community asks for one. Honestly, I'd prefer if GW2 and BfN got new content and QoL updates instead of a new PvZ shooter game. To me a GW3 seems unnecessary when GW2 and BfN could be substantially improved with more updates, especially BfN. Both of those games have a lot of room for improvement.

@Iron_Guard8 It is wishful thinking. There is no longer a team for the pvz shooters. They also stated that there will never be another pvz shooter + they are "working" on fixing other problems like the progress corruption in BFN,GW2 and GW1 so there is no way for another shooter to exist.

There is also this problem that i don't know how much i would trust them to make a new one. We have seen what happened with fresh ideas packaged as BfN.

And then there is the oversaturated online shooter problem with games struggling to find an audience. Then GW has always been in a niche and i think EA was never satisfied with its financial performance. It's just an overall difficult situation. And all the cheaters and "modders" don't make it easier.

  • I hear you guys, and ever since BfN tanked, things have looked grim for the shooters. I am glad that we can still play GW and GW2, as I play GW2 pretty much everyday, and @Screion I have to also worry about what they would do if they made a new game with their current record. That being said, I still will post about this at times, since there's so much they could do with a good team that wanted to make a good PvZ shooter. The fact that new videos are still coming out about the games, and especially GW2 for obvious reasons, is such a mixed blessing as it shows that there's a lot of love for the games, but that we really left off on a sour note. At the very least, they should bring back the more interesting portal events and make all the community hats and legendary consumables available. But I still would love a well-done new shooter to revitalize the series and bring more new players, and old player's kids together for some great times.

  • One of the things I really liked about 2 over 1 is that you couldn't do that respawn cheese thing, where a wounded player would just respawn and rob you of your vanquish, something that 2 largely fixed with the timer that resets when you get hit. You can still duck into cover and respawn, but it was much more difficult in GW2 than GW. That would be a nice feature to have while playing on the classic GW maps that many missed in GW2.
