Mount Steep - Gnome Guide!
Hi ya everyone,
NOTE: At the time of writing this, the Golden Gnome located at the Big Drill in Mount Steep cannot be collected due to a glitch/bug meaning that the Gnome Button there cannot be activated. This is regardless of which platform you play on, which character you are, what upgrades or abilities you use or which account you are using (universal issue). This should be fixed in a patch (hopefully soon), it may be fixed in a patch later this month (July). My suggestion for now (if you have not collected this Gnome yet) is to collect all the other Golden Gnomes and to complete as many other Gnome Activities as possible, then come back and collect it when this glitch is fixed and you are able to collect the Gnome again.
In this thread I will cover how to complete most of the gnome activities in Mount Steep. In other words, I am going to cover all of the gnome activities unless I forget something. Since there are a lot of gnome activities to complete in Mount Steep, I will not be covering every gnome activity available, when where necessary, I will attach links to videos where you can find out how to collect the collectibles. For the Gnome Boss fights, I will also attach some of my personal tips to make it easier to complete these fights.
I will cover the Gnome Activities in Mount Steep, including:
- Golden Gnomes.
- Diamond Gnomes.
- The Mysterious Phone.
- Gnome Shrine.
- Gnome Chests.
- Sir Boff Boss Fight.
- The Rewards.
Let's get started now, shall we?
Golden Gnomes
Across all of Mount Steep, there are 24 Golden Gnomes to collect. Some of these Golden Gnomes are really easy to collect, which others require a challenge to get hold of, or are just outright difficult. Some can be collected straight away, while others may require you to complete a challenge first. For example, Catch That Gnome, Gnomolith Activity or a Gnomolith Puzzle. Some may not be obviously spotted either and you may need to look for a Gnome Button which either reveals the Golden Gnome, or you can then trigger the following activity.
To find out how to collect all of the Golden Gnomes, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHKqpRykNCg
When you have collected all 24 of the Golden Gnomes, you will be able to open both of the Gnome Chests, located inside the Gnome Shrine.
Diamond Gnomes
Across all of Mount Steep, there are 3 Diamond Gnomes to collect. They require different activities for you to complete, before the Diamond Gnome can be collected, one being a Parkour challenge, another being a Puzzle, and the final one being a Gnomolith Boss Fight.
To find out how to collect all of the Diamond Gnomes, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HZathLMHko
When you have collected all of the 3 Diamond Gnomes, you are able to open the Mysterious Door in the Gnome Shrine, which gives you access to the Sir Boff Gnome Boss Fight.

Diamond Gnome Gnomolith Tips - Mimic Gnight!
For the Gnomolith activity required to get the Diamond Gnome, here are my tips to make it a bit easier for you:
- You have a time limit. The more damage and DPS you have, the easier you should find it to win. You must pay 50 sheriff badges every time you attempt it so do your best to win first try!
- You must defeat 3 Mimic Gnights - that is the gimmick of this fight! Once you have defeated one, you have to find a Gnome Bomb that appears, it shouldn't be difficult to find, then plant it in the glowing blue circle in the middle. When you do, another Mimic Gnight will appear. The health pool on the top of the screen is the health of all 3 Mimic Gnights. Just note while you have the Gnome Bomb, your abilities are negated. Characters like Oak could be useful here as he has loads of health, and is slow normally anyway.
- Using attacks and abilities that deal splash damage, have an area of effect or are explosive are useful for the fight. This is useful for dealing with the hordes of other Gnomes that are clustering and are coming after you. Then, focus your fire on the Mimic Gnight after you have cleared out some of the Gnomes, using really damaging attacks and abilities, such as Husk Hop and Pea Gatling!
- Use cover if you need to, and keep moving to get away from the Gnomes in pursuit of you. If you are moving backwards, you are slower but can return fire at the Gnomes.
- Consider your character and upgrades you use before attempting the Gnomolith.
The Mysterious Phone
This is located in Olde Town Road. You use the Mysterious Phone to get in contact with a "mysterious" gnome. Once you have collected all 3 of the Diamond Gnomes, the phone will "ring". Head to the Mysterious Phone and interact with it. The Mysterious Gnome on the phone will want you to defeat Sir Boff. If you do, you will get rewarded from the mysterious gnome.
Gnome Shrine
There is a Gnome Shrine located inside of Mount Steep. It is located deep inside the Steep Mines. Head past Gilly the Kid (the Nightcap), where the drill is, then keep heading down through the tunnel straight past them, into an opening with a bunch of enemies and cheese (where the Nimjimp Bounty Hunt is located). Then, head right at the end of the room and jump onto the platforms (do not go up the ramp - the Gnome Shrine is not there), use the platforms to get to the Gnome Shrine and it should be located straight ahead. This is where the Mysterious Door and Gnome Chests are located. Just be careful about landing on the cheese because you do not want to be vanquished on the way to the Gnome Shrine.
Gnome Chests
There are 2 Gnome Chests located in Mount Steep. These are located inside of the Gnome Shrine, on either side of the Mysterious Door (also located inside the Gnome Shrine). When you collect 12 Golden Gnomes, you will gain access to one of the Gnome Chests. When you have collected all 24 Golden Gnomes, you will gain access to both chests.
Sir Boff Gnome Boss Fight
Once you have collected all of the Diamond Gnomes, you will be able to take on the final gnome boss for the region: Sir Boff. By defeating him, you will get a bunch of rewards. Keep in mind he has a bunch of health. There will be a couple of phases where he becomes invincible and you have to do a puzzle to be able to damage him again. To watch the boss fight in action, and to find out how to do the Puzzle, go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXB2BoQICd4. Just as a note, after you have defeated him, head back to the Mysterious Phone and interact with it - you will have some rewards waiting for you! My tips to make the boss fight a little bit easier are as follows:
- Stay away from the edge of the arena. That is full of cheese. You will get vanquished if you land in the cheese, or at a minimum, take lots of damage.
- High health, shields and healing capabilities are really useful for the fight due to improved survivability.
- Attack characters are also really useful as they can vanquish some of the minion Gnomes quickly and can deal lots of damage to the boss. Consider using upgrades such as Vampiric or Low Life to keep your health high, or to gain health when your health is getting low.
- Keep moving when possible to keep away from the Gnomes. Most of the Gnomes, apart from Shooty Gnomes, have really limited ranged attacks so keep your distance to avoid being damaged continuously and not being able to regenerate.
- If and when many Gnomes begin to swarm you, use explosive firepower, splash damage or area-of-effect attacks and abilities for crowd control, by try not to let them swarm you in the first place. Get up onto and use the columns' height to your advantage because you can attack the Gnomes much more safely, along with Sir Boff.
- Try to use cover to hide around the arena if your health is getting low, but keep moving if possible so Gnomes do not begin to swarm you. When Sir Boff is invincible, do not rush the Puzzle if you do not need to, there is no time limit and you can use cover if other Gnomes are surrounding you. When Sir Boff is invincible, you can also use this as an opportunity to seek cover and heal if your health is getting low before you begin the Puzzle.
- Consider what character you use and which upgrades you equip before heading through the Mysterious Door.
The Rewards
By defeating Sir Boff, you will recieve rewards as listed below. You will also get some rewards along the way. The Rewards are as follows:
- "Short Temper" - a medal you get for defeating Sir Boff.
- 10,000 coins.
- 50,000 coins (interacting with the Mysterious Phone after defeating Sir Boff).
- Reign of Gnomus and Tra-Clickety-La! - victory slab and punchers, respectively (Gnome Chests).
- 100,000 coins (from both Gnome Chests combined).
- 250 XP for each Golden Gnome collected.
- 1,000 XP for each Diamond Gnome collected.
- Any other Medals and rewards you earn along the way.
I hope that this guide was helpful and I'll see you next time!
Regards
- @TheSprinter85 If you land in the hot cheese 3 times no matter your health you get Vanquished and sometimes you don't jump out of the cheese when you are near a wall so you will take 2 hits
