Mystery Portal : Party time
Finally here, mystery portal event, Party time with party character and low gravity. But the party time might cause serious lag and looks still happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syy-Xls34w...
I know they have discontinued new DLC but that is not an excuse to discontinue maintenance. There should not be these kinds of problems going unsolved less than two years after the game's launch. Why would I sink another 700+ hours in GW3 if it will be in this state not even two years after it is released?
When this happened, everything becomes extremely slow, even if I come out from game to try message my friends.
Based on this pattern, it's not a network issue but there's a bug in the program caught in an infinite loop and consume the whole CPU 100% and can't do anything else.
How did I know this? since I was studying computer science and this sometimes happened to my code and causing the laptop fan blowing out and become a heater, many apps become extremely slow, and when checking CPU, it hit the fan 100%.
This could be the software encountered an error or unexpected condition but there's no proper exception to handle it OR it simply not properly coded & tested for party time :P
Since we have all the tester testing (user playing) now, the dev should have tons of data to fix this.
Roger, can help follow up with the developer? Thanks
I played a bunch of games tonight that weren't bugged. They were small lobbies and few people were earning party time.
I did my 40 stars for the week (not sure if I will go back and get the optional 50). I didn't crash at all but I did have some extremely rubberbandy situations. It makes me curious where the lag originates. For example, there were several times people would rubberband into the same spot. I had the opportunity to shoot and vanquish them during this time. So, how is it they are held still, yet I have the opportunity to vanquish them as if they are in a gravity grenade. I wonder how that even appears on their screen. Are they totally fine and just fall over? Or does it appear I am aiming at them even though I might in reality be facing a different direction completely?
I give the concept of the portal a 9 out of 10. Party people everywhere, a chance for players without party variants to level them and low gravity to make things interesting. Its just a shame that technical limitations prevent the game from running smoothly for such an interesting portal. (I can't even be mad and claim laziness like I usually do. This has been a known issue from the moment it was implemented. Plus, I can't fault them for attempting an interesting portal, even if it turned out poorly.)
Basically what happens is the party chars are maxing out the player's GPU and / or CPU and it's locking their entire PC up until they quit the game or kill the game process. The only thing I've found that helps is setting your in game video settings to LOW, but even then I still lag out from time to time. On the player side all you see is extremely slow stuttering and you really can't do anything. If you are close to the end of the game you can wait for the game to finish and get your stars before quitting out but your PC will remain slow until you quit the game. This has nothing to do with internet speed it's the party chars party mode killing the video cards.
FYI, Happening on XBOX ONE as well. I have an excellent internet connection.
I would sugggest the system can't handle all the party characters.
This happened with the last challenge that used party characters.
I havnt had any lag at all!
Are you people with lag on Consol, US server ?
Im in EU and on PC.
I had several games crash my console last night. I gave up.
Don't bother worrying about your internet speed. It is a known issue that putting party characters in the portal events causes massive lag and game crashing when multiple players get into party time, but for some obscure reason they keep insisting on doing it.
As stated earlier here despite the situation that the game is no longer getting full-fledged DLC the fact that the game is still being played and they make these multiplayer events means that these issues need to be fixed. That we have this issue under these conditions several times means that this is a known issue and has been known for awhile and should be fixed. With the recent login issues we've had on top of this it makes it even worse.
I had no issues with the event but my PC is a beast and since I had 50 rainbow stars banked and spent several regular stars to round out buying the chests and banking 50 for the next event meant I didn't have to play all that many rounds and got them all in Friday night.
The worst part about this is that the event should have been fun for the community and not a lagfest for most of the community. While the events have been hit or miss, mostly hit luckily, this one should have been a hit but reading the comments here and on the FB group it was mostly miss.
As someone that loves this game, both GW games really, I hate to see this kind of thing happen as it is discouraging for people and reinforces the 'maintenance mode' mentality that is prevalent here. With the new game being a mystery and I'm sure the recent controversy over the BF2 loot boxes has had an effect on the game's still obfuscated development, we can only play what we have now and I don't want to lose even more people. You are still selling upgrade packs and coins for the game so while I'm sure that revenue is down from the game's heyday it deserves attention.
