Overstuffed Zombie with Deadly Doesn't Power Up

I had Overstuffed Zombie on the field utilizing Deadly via Super Stench.  When he damaged an opponent and thusly took damage from the opponent, neither was defeated.  And then Deadly kicked in, killi...

Don't know why they would "fix it"... it's not the zombie doing the killing, it's the effect. Doesn't seem broken.

What kind of logic is that?

The zombie is doing the killing using the deadly trait.

It's not a virus floating through the air killing randomly.
