I have the same problem.
And on PS4 the Community-Meter is gone.
Can there be more troubles.

Console servers were out on the west coast last night, and this seems to be an artifact. I doubt it will get fixed, I hope everyone opened their chests in a timely manner!
As for the original post, I'm afraid I have no idea what is the issue. Here's where to start:

My daughter had opened 2 out of the 3 chests, but had to wait on getting the 3rd. When she went to collect the 3rd chest, she could not get on because the servers were down. Now the meter is gone and can't collect the red chest.
