PvZ GW2 - Should I buy the Disc Version ?

HI - New Xbox owner here...

After reading a few great reviews about what a great split screen game it is and how good the offline options are I bought the game from MS Store, downloaded and installed it..

Then discovered it doesn't actually work offline ☹️

So I contacted MS Store who have agreed to refund me and cancel the licence.

Thing is I am confused - will this game work offline in the XBox one if I buy the disc version (any version) or will I always need to have an internet connection on to play this game?

I'd rather buy something else if I need to be online because it's basically for my kids.
