Re: AI bot questions

Usually game designers allow the computer to cheat to a certain degree to replace the difficulty of an intelligent human opponent. AI can't play as well as people without years of R&D and costs spent making bots that know the game the way players do. So the easy workaround is to give the computer advantages over the player. Most people will tolerate some cheating by the AI in order to make the game challenging, but the more obvious it is, the lazier the development of the bots seems to be, and the worse overall the game experience is. Lemme explain your concerns:

1 is an example of an advantage. The computer gets unlimited helpers and turrets to make it harder for you to win.

2. Does the sunflower revive her own teammates when the computer is controlling the plants team? When scientist is on your team, does he not revive you? If so, the computer is making it harder by not providing you with revives.

3. This is just plain cheating and a lazy approach. Without being too insulting, they could easily at least make the Engineer obey realistic mouse turning speed rules.

Needless to say, 1 is probably fair given you are smarter than popcap's AI, 2 is a bug if sunflower never revives period, and 3 is a blatant AI shortcut.

That all makes sense.  And yes the scientist will heal and revive me when I'm on his team.  The sunflower never revives and maybe heals me 20% of the time even when I am below 10% health.  I think that is weird because on the backyard battleground the sunflower does an excellent job of healing/reviving.
