Re: Cross-Play in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville (Discussion)

@TheSprinter85 Exactly! It would be so fun to get a whole group together from the forums, especially with swarm characters officially releasing next month!

    @TheSprinter85 & @PineapplePiano

It would be extremely cool if the forum people could play together, but I have to say I'd probably be a little scared of it 🤔.

I mean everybody on this forum, including myself, complains about certain play styles. And if I used one of them without thinking  I might be a little hypocritical 😇.

I am 100% sure that if the developers see a high demand for Cross-Play, they'll see what they can do. After what went down at this year's EA Play, they did say that EA is conducting a big push to make sure people can play their games with friends, no matter the platform. I doubt they'll neglect their best shooter series 🙂

@TheSprinter85 Yes, I'd personally love to connect with the community more. Battle for Neighborville definitely has one of the best communities out there and it is enlightening to hear that they may be able to support cross play, maybe even cross progression!

@CompleatBeet I feel like if they can't enable cross play as it is a lot of work, they should at least have cross save! Then people would still have to buy the game again on other platforms (sadly), but would be able to keep all their progress and could play with people on other platforms.
  • @benn1nat0r Both cross play and cross save/cross progression will be a challenge for Popcap to implement into the game. EA has been funding their studios to ensure that their games can grow and support big features like these so I would expect some news on this down the line.

@CompleatBeet I didn't know cross save / progression would be a lot of work. I thought it would be pretty easy honestly and that they would just have to store your saves on their servers.
I really want cross play to happen, but I doubt they'll do it.
  • I wouldn't count on it.

It's very simple, really: if you let cross-platform be added to BFN, it signals the end of console gaming because you're letting all the PC gamers win everything. That's a death sentence to console gaming right there! ☹️

@SonicMaster92 I play controller on pc and played on console I didn't see a difference in game skill...I don't think this would matter.

@SonicMaster92 They could just force pc players to use a controller if the want to play in a cross play lobby. I don't play many games on pc and therefore don't know if there could be other issues. Maybe the advantage of high refresh screens? One other worry I have is that as a result there will be more hackers.

There might be hackers, however, the PvZ BFN on PC comes with an Anti-Cheat that automatically launch with the game (EasyAntiCheat), so there's honestly barely any hackers onto it. Or if there is, they must be pretty quiet and stealthy about it. In all cases, thanks to the anti-cheat, I doubt BfN will ever become what GW2 PC currently is ('hacker' wise).

But yeah, I agree with the controller thing.

I personally love the idea of cross-play and I was really hyped when Apex Legends announced they would support cross-play too. Just knowing cross-play is a possibility for BFN is delightful.

Cross progression is something we have never really heard about in EA Games. It was announced Apex will never support cross progression, which is a bummer, but it would be awesome to keep progress if you switch platforms.

I'd also like to elaborate that in a game like Battle for Neighborville there will be hardly any repercussions to cross play!

The only reasonable one is aim assist being stronger on controller than on KB+Mouse but they could of course tune it up.

KB+Mouse have no advantages over controller. I've heard this so much and it's quite questionable. PC+Controller players do just fine in PC servers so there is no problem.

Cheating shouldn't be too much of a problem. As @epalis highlighted, BFN uses the same anti-cheat as Fortnite and Apex Legends, and I really doubt this would be a problem in a game for young people.

@epalis Thank you for pointing this out to me! I haven't had to deal with Anti-Cheat-Software so far as I only play Cities Skylines on my pc 🙂
