Re: Does anyone play arena ?

That was a question I had in my mind "If You Don't Play Arena, Why?"

But that's because I don't play it myself anymore for the following reasons:

  1. Communication and teamwork: If you ended up with a team that doesn't want to communicate vs a full communicating party, you're doomed from the start. Your teammates die one after another and it becomes a 4v1 where you see enemy players sticking together and you stand no chance. Also, with communication, you can pick up a well-balanced team composition. When playing with randoms it just becomes a spaghetti.
  2. There is no skill-based matchmaking: I often ended up going against players who just started the game. Yeah, I won.. but that wasn't fun... It was lopsided. And I do feel bad for those players. It can also be the opposite way around, all of your teammates are completely new to the game vs elites.
  3. The game doesn't also factor in ranks: Players who have everything upgraded might have the upper hand. Not fun going against players who don't everything unlocked.
  4. Nobody likes waiting for other players while doing nothing. So, you'll see people quitting before waiting for others... This happens in all modes regardless.. People thinking they'd re-queue to find full lobbies, which does happen sometimes.

Other reasons to why people don't like it:

  • Pressure: Not all people can tolerate the pressure, especially of being the last one standing. I'm the opposite, I love it when it happens ! <- that was one of my first few games...
  • Elimination mode is boring to some people as some don't like dying, then having to wait for long to play back again.
  • No incentive to play it... No special rewards, no quests, no reason to play it...
  • It requires more dedication than other modes and some people don't want to commit to a full game. (I know that other game modes are the same, but quitting doesn't have a huge impact on most other modes)
  • Some people have poor connections which could result in frustrating experiences... lagging, getting disconnected suddenly.
  • Its fun factor, to some people, is completely random for the personal reasons I mentioned above.
  • The map could be dull and boring to some players.

I understand what you are saying but come on, the « pressure » in this game isn’t even close to what you can feel in csgo for example. Arena is the only « competitive » mode we have in this game so why not play it ? They should make a ranked with it and that would be perfect, no more teaming with noobs etc... Seriously, the other modes are « cute » but after ten hours participating in those gigantic messy battles where you just shoot whoever comes close without any teamplay and without even trying to be somewhat « strategic », I’d really enjoy going into something sharper and requiring more skill. Those turf etc... modes are just made for kids who wanna shoot without even thinking a tiny bit. Sure it’s fun but it’s not enough for a mature player.

I really thought with the global launch of the game I would see more people playing this, so it’s not a good sign for the player base. It looks like there aren’t enough players to make it last ...

@Zigmund-80 Just a reminder. I'm not saying I dislike the pressure personally, I was just saying that not all people like it and I very much understand that as I played with different people of different age ranges and personalities. Not all people can handle the pressure. Some people dislike being blamed for any loss or poor strategic choices. It's baked into their DNA, so they tend to avoid these modes altogether.

There is another possible reason why people avoid it...

    • Can't do hero quests/dailies if you can't play the same hero again.

Not all people have time to do all quests too...

Again, these reasons were supposed to be factored in when designing the mode... which they probably didn't...

I would definitely do things differently it if it was up to me..

I think they should make it 2v2 during weekdays and 4v4 during weekends... and also give handsome rewards for winning... A hat or something that would keep people playing it until they get it. 2v2 isn't terrible either lol faster matchmaking, not having to worry about being ganged up vs 4 other players.

    Why would 2v2 be better:

    • Grouped up pairs can go against grouped up pairs. Solos pairs vs solo pairs... that would be fair for all.
    • That could also be Split-Screen Players vs Split-Screen Players. <- This would be really really fun.
    • You will never ever have to rely on a random if you have another friend playing with you as getting 1 more player is way much easier than finding 3 others to play with you.
    • Matchmaking can be faster and place players of similar ranks/skills against each other.
    • This game is not Free-to-Play and the number of players doesn't satisfy a balanced 4v4. Also, they did poor marketing with this game, so that's that...
  • I won't play battle arena untill some better balances to charaters are made, even the little turf I play I struggle at charater select screen to select a charater I like.

No I'm not fussy, mystery heroes was my go to game in Overwatch and I loved it when gw2 had their version of mystery heroes at town hall events.

Guys you are totally right 🙂

I totally agree with everything you said. Great ideas there 👍

So in the end this is again a matter of development 😭

Well I’ll hope it gets better in the future cause for now, those modes with many people aren’t really fun after 10/20 hours. Extremely repetitive and no place for strategy or a bit thinking.

The more time passes the more I get the feeling this could have been a great game...

Thanks for the answers guys 😊
