I'm in the same situation. Its the gnome that is below the cliffs in Great white North.
All the above suggested work arounds do not work. I've tried playing solo leaving the difficulty on crazy with speed boost on. I've even tried doing this on split screen with no luck. Even tried playing as both plants and zombies. I'm yet to try it on multiplayer as its rare to get a game to go that far into the map to see if it's available there.
Open to any other suggestions here
