It's a known bug that occurs occasionally on wave eight in any map. A game developer who was responsible for coding this fessed up to the bug on the reddit sub a a year or two ago. It only happens very rarely. In two years of play, I've had it happen twice. While disappointing, it's hardly worth quitting the game over.
