Bandit cactus isn't a sniper either.
Both Petrified and bandit cactus are more mid ranged characters than snipers.

I snipe pretty well with Bandito Cactus. : (
Generally speaking once you've completed the full roster for each character class you'll find at least one variant in each one which departs from what is considered "normal" for the class or which just does the same job differently.
It adds depth and interest to the game and requires players to learn new tactics and styles of play if they expect to be able to rank up to maximum Player Rank.
