It happens to me on all characters zombie wise so I'm going to assume it's working as intended. I look at it as a reward for stepping on it and saving allies. I've also noticed you get 10 for going through your own teleporter. I'm chalking that up the the risk you take for stepping on it and not being instantly vaporised on accident.
