I had the same problem and here's what I did. what i did was install https://help.ea.com/en/help/pc/ea-anticheat/#install the anti cheat from here. then I opened that and scrolled down to pvz heroes (for some reason it showed  it when before it would not idk why). I then uninstal, reinstalled, updated and repaired it... and it works! Ok let me know if this helps
