The game features a Demo Mode which allows you to play a bit while the bulk of the game is downloading; if you find yourself in the moon that's the Demo.
Once the game starts you'll spawn as a Sunflower inZombie territory and that functions as a basic tutorial.
When you find yourself in the Plant base that will represent the start of the game proper. For online Co-op play you'll see Crazy Daves flying, time traveling RV sitting next to the garage and for Multiplayer you'll see a circular portal on the other side of the Quest Board. Just approach the control panel of either to initiate play.
The Zombie base has the equivilent access points.
