Re: This Yeti Boss Hunt

I have the notion that fully upgraded alien flower will be extremely effective in this boss hunt.  I didn't try her yet because I only played one match which already had two sunflowers.  After seeing a brief video, I can say the spore cloud damage is insane once the buff is on.

@missitalia21  I and one or more of my team might be able to join you tonight, we play around, let's say, from 9 PST.  micushing PS4.

Thank you for the invite, i manage to do it with other people . It's difficult to play when you don't have the same time zone as your friends >_<

I'll add you though, so maybe we can help eachothers for the next bosshunt 🙂

This boss hunt is already on par with the Spooky Squash boss hunt in terms of difficulty and frustration. Here's why:

    1. The people that do boss hunts don't know what to do for every phase in the session

    2. Ice elemental zombies freezing you in place far too quickly

    3. Random people choosing characters other than the all-important sunflowers

    4. The time allowed to destroy every popsicle is too short

    5. The smaller bosses (Disco Zombie and Yeti) are either too painful or too shifty to get a good shot

    6. The King's fool appears way too late

    7. The radius of the 50x more damage is too small

    8. The rest of the boss hunt being impossible to beat

And 9. There's no mid-session hints for people to understand or follow

Lack of mid-session info, an underexperienced plant team and everything else above just adds to the frustration.

I really insist the dev team stop making all these boss hunts ridiculously impossible-to-beat; this level of impossible-ness is really making me ludicrously cranky. And when I say ludicrously cranky, I really mean:

    "LUDICROUSLY CRANKY"

  • Here are a couple more things to add on to why this event is as challenging as it is.

    1. Yeti Imps are the tankiest Imps that the PvZ series has ever borne witness to. They have practically as much health as a Conehead, and when their hitbox is as small as it is, that's an issue. No NPC enemy Imp has any right being that tanky, especially with how much of a hassle a whole group can be ganging up on you.

    2. Problems with player base as well. You have too many people not knowing what to do, going off Lone Wolfing, or just generally being unhelpful.

    3. Frequency of spawns and attacks. Too often do I see Disco Zombies on their Twister attack on top of a teammate's corpse or right as someone is trying to get by to get the ice cream targets. Same thing with Yeti Imps ganging up on you and Arctic Troopers with aimbot aim.

    4. People thinking that the center trench is the best place to hold out when you're getting shot down the second you come back up from a revive down there.

    Tips:

    1. Watch wasting your time with inexperienced players and players who chose the wrong characters (no offense). Wasted games probably consumed an hour or two of time last night although I used the first few as practice runs and trying different characters knowing we’d lose
    2. If you can’t put together any teammates beforehand then make your best judgement of whom you play with and who sticks with your game after a few runs. Sometimes it’s just luck and that is frustrating. I spotted two players within a few runs of my games and we just seemed to gel after a while, like have a routine.  We got very good over time and we got quick with taking down those popsicles or ‘snowmen on a stick’.  This can be the most frustrating part of a hunt…who you can win with and who can navigate the game properly/
    3. Watch the character selection of your teammates. Someone who picks a Chomper (any variant) or a Cactus doesn’t know what they are doing and are probably children. I got this a few times and I just stuck with doing consecutive rounds in the hopes of newer/knowledgeable players replacing them.  This technique worked but it took 4 hours for us and the better players stuck with it.  Again, it depends on the population of players who play…hit or miss.
    4. In theory you could win without any flowers (debatable) but unless the other players are like highly ranked and experienced with the boss hunt it is not advisable. I switched characters a lot in the first few rounds just to get a feel for the dynamics and I settled on only one consistent character…Fluffy Flower (Master of course). I got the idea from YouTube as I hardly ever played with her and you get sun after vanquishes.  It took a while but I completely fell in a routine of heal beams, heal plants, healing teammates, when to fall back, whom to target.  I don’t suggest to everyone to just pick one character and go with it forever but for me it helped.  Also, some of the newer players you get paired with may find the flower not exciting enough and always want the high power characters so sticking with the flower was good for me.
    5. Don’t message during the boss hunt. I got this a few times and I was like…what the $%&*. Use headset and/or group with known players but the game is fast paced enough as it is and there is something called the internet where you can research the hunt beforehand.
    6. In the beginning, when trying to protect the ice cream cone, before the Yeti King arrives, don’t leave single players protecting the cone while all the other plants are in elevated positions. I’m an excellent player, rank 5455, but even being a flower has it limits when the other zombie reinforcements come and they sneak in areas not visible from an elevated position. Plus I can’’t heal you.
    7. DO NOT ENGAGE YETI KING…you will not do enough damage and you’ll only * him off. I saw one post where some clown said that his team’s corns mowed down the yeti king without the damage boost…completely false. The only time you should engage the Yeti King is if another one of your teammates is stuck in a corner and is taking fire and can’t get out.  Then, in that case, move back and start some fire.  Eventually he will turn his attention to you and your teammate can escape.  You being far away can escape easy.  If you come too close you’ll experience snowball bombs which will destroy you and any passing teammate in the area.
    8. When the Yeti King first shows up he will plant himself in the area of the ice cream cone, typically where you and/or your teammates are. Immediately after his dance ESCAPE from the King Yeti…period…if you can, sometimes you can’t in enough time. If you don’t he will lock you in one or multiple freezes which hurt.  Regroup with another teammate; wait for the ‘snowman’ popsicles and destroy zombies in the meantime.  I can’t tell you how many times at first my teammates tried to put a hurting on him when he first shows up.  You might even be in an elevated position and think to yourself “every little bit helps”…but you won’t make a dent.
    9. I was always the flower so I couldn’t get up high but we had a citron and a peashooter that would elevate themselves every time we had to destroy those popsicles. This worked after a while and there where many times I never even paid attention to those popsicles…I just killed zombies, planted flowers and made sure any teammate I saw was healed up.
    10. At first I was afraid of the zombie army, ice soldiers, AC Perry, disco zombie, etc, so there where a few games I avoided them just to heal, plant, find imp fool, etc. This was a big mistake. From what I can tell a set of zombies come out at times so it isn’t a continuous flood of zombies.  If you don’t contribute to vanquishing these zombies they will follow you and show up when/if you find the imp fool/get the slurpee.  They will also freeze you from behind which is annoying, especially for a flower with 100 health. After changing my ways the game objectives got more manageable as there were fewer zombies to deal with at those stages.  I personally found the ice soldier and disco zombie most annoying.
    11. Disco zombies, I avoided these guys, but after a while they would rotate their disco ball every time I needed to do something important and I got vanquished. In this mode they cannot take damage so run. After a while I targeted the disco zombies and this issue virtually went away.
    12. Plan ahead when the Imp fool shows up. After some time, after the Imp fool showed up, unless I absolutely needed to I toned down my aggressiveness and conserved health. You need good health to sustain zombies attacking you when you are delivering the damage boost to the Yeti King.  As a flower I also tried to save my healing plant until all/most of us where within the damage boost ‘yellow’ circle so I could plant and give health to my teammates.  This is how we delivered the final blow.
    13. WHO SHOULD DRINK THE SLURPEE?: you and/or your teammates might be tempted to race to drink the slurpee. Unless no one was around and/or we did a good job of clearing out all of the zombies I waited for a few seconds or I let the high health plant drink the splurpee.  We had a citron that I let do this.  Your slurpee drinker should be knowledgeable and stay put once you have a clean line of sight to the Yeti King.  The Yeti King will more or less stay in one place once he starts taking damage from the damage boost.  One guy was terrible doing this, moving around, so I took the slurpee from him a few times

That’s it for now, typing fingers getting tired.  Good luck!

I'm that clown who said that the corns on my team shredded the Yeti King.  I never said you should engage him.  The corns we had were higher level and probably using damage upgrades.

Sorry, it wasn't so much of the 'engagement' part...so I wasn't calling you a clown for that.  But how could two corns, even with character damage upgrades, delivery substantial damage to the Yeti King without beforehand obtaining the slurpee (aka, the games damage boost)?  I could've read it wrong so my apologizes but my first two runs I used BBQ with character damage upgrade and me and another citron attacked the Yeti (without slurpee/game damage boost) several times and we didn't make a mark on him.  Point is you need the games damage boost as well as the character damage upgrade, if there are techniques for the corns to deliver substantial damage without the slurpee then I am all ears...I want to use this in the regular game.
