Sorry I have to disagree with this one.
I get it, I really do. It is frustrating to have a weak run or even worse a losing one. It would be nice to only ever get skilled players to work with. However, a large part of the game's player base is children who deserve the hats just as much as everyone else. It is possible to carry people in all 4 boss hunts on easy, those same weak players shouldn't be around for hard or craaazy. I just don't think it is fair to kick a child for not being skilled. (Or anyone for that matter.) Besides, people will never learn if they never make mistakes. (I know I failed hard the first time I did Yeti, I had to see other players succeed to learn what to do.) As skilled players and as adults I think we have some responsibility to help the less skilled players. (Within reason, not talking about spending the weekend playing.) If a match is fated to lose then it will, we can leave and find a new match. But, kicking players just to ensure a victory is unfair.
Before I go on I want to address the real villain here. The fact these events are limited time on a rotation. It can be months before a boss hunt comes back so people get frustrated when they can't get everything in a single weekend. That was a mistake on Popcap's part I hope is fixed going forward. Other portals are fine they are just modified normal modes. Boss Hunt on the other hand has exclusives. It should be available at all times with a star reward occasionally through portal to stimulate interest. But, for those wanting the items there is no real reason to lock it behind a portal except to drag out content. Add it to the normal list of modes and let people play.
Anyway, now to the second issue I have, the power of a kick option. Sure, it would be nice to kick players who just don't understand or are causing problems for the team. But, what is stopping people from kicking for other reasons? Kid is using a microphone and refuses to turn it off. Player didn't pick a character the team deems worthy. (Even though, played well, nearly any class is useful in boss hunt.) Where does the worthiness even come from? Is only toxic brainz and scientist worthy on zombie team or can imps, all-stars, engineers, soldiers and other brainz be useful too? What about kicking a player who is wandering around trying to let people respawn rather than pressing the objective? Yes, I know the slippery slope fallacy. However, giving the option to kick does open the door for all of these options even if they aren't commonly used.
Given the game is focused on simple childlike fun it seems to go against the spirit of the game to have a kick option. Sorry, the idea of kicking someone, even in the name of Boss Hunt success, seems icky to me. (And really icky in any other situation or mode.)
- 8 years agoQuick problem with a voting system is that you will get players voting until they get someone that they want, not at least need; or the worse option which is a problem in games like csgo, ow, tf2, etc, player kicking for the heck of it. The benefit of it is an interesting option still, but it would need to be reworked so that children/hackers/pests would not use it to their advantage when things did not go their way.
I believe though that a system for sorting would be beneficial, like maybe you could enter the portal and set the match so that when players join, it meets the leader's and team needs. I.e. match has been set to balanced/any type/only rank above 25/ all one class or variant type so that you get less players making decisions that might negatively affect the hunt. - Anonymous8 years ago

You can go ahead and carry all the people you want. I personally am tired of it. The option is there in Garden ops so I feel it should be in boss hunt too. Your point on everybody deserving the hats is valid but i think you shouldn’t have them by being carried rather earning them yourself. And I just want you to understand that it’s an OPTION so just like in Garden ops it would take 2 votes to kick someone and that’s seems fair to me.I know its an option but unlike Garden Ops which you can reset anytime, any day, boss hunt is available for a very limited time. (Only ~20 days per year.) This means people are more likely to fight until they get what they want. People are under more pressure to succeed and will be more likely to kick people to do so.
But lets put aside what ifs about people's use of a kick option. There is one other problem, boss hunt cuts off new players after the protection waves. In other words, you need to decide who is valuable by the time the boss appears or you simply lose a player rather than kick them for something better. This means players have to make a decision quickly, again, suggesting kicking based solely on class choice. (Or undesirable performance in defending.) To the contrary, Garden Ops populated all the way to the escape phase meaning kicked players can be replaced. Boss Hunt results in kicks being predominantly a disadvantage. (Hard to imagine a player that is worse than not being there, boss health doesn't change with difficulty only damage and minions.) At that point the run is already doomed since the kicked player won't be replaced. (Again, assuming they aren't kicked right away, which is the situation I worry about.)
- 8 years agoYou’re only allowed to vote to kick in a pre-game lobby not mid game in ops. After playing a game with them and realizing they are no help then you get yo vote to kick them before the next game starts. That’s what I’m suggesting.

I dunno. On the rare occasion when I do a boss hunt with randoms and the team obviously cannot go the distance, I just leave and find another lobby. There's no point in finishing out a hopeless match.
