Re: What are Your Best and Worst Turf Takeover Maps?

My favorite maps are:

  • Peachy District: It's a colorful open map with many "clear" routes. The objectives are spacious and give room to evade many abilities. The routes are clearer than other maps and have different variations as you keep proceeding. The spawn points are somewhat fair and acceptable compared to other maps. What annoys about it is Zombie players who forget about the objective completely until it's Overtime.
The last objective is annoying as Zombies, some players are completely clueless and do not differ from summonable allies. They keep getting hit with nuts and do nothing about the zones. Even though you single-handedly take on one zone and destroy 3~4 plants, your teammates are doing nothing at all. After you capture one zone, which is pointless without another, you go to assist others capturing the other zones but the one you've already captured went to the plants *face palm*. No one comes to defend other objectives, no one cares about capturing other zones. It's a total mess and there is nothing you can do about it solo. The game should start explaining things using symbols, since some players are stuck in the dark ages.

  • Turning Point: This is one of the maps I don't mind being either plants or zombies. It starts with capturing a point and clear spots to where snipers would most likely be. And then shifts to two different move the payload parts. The annoying part of it how some Plants players behave "Let's go from the shortest route to the objective! the one on the left." And get shredded with all enemy abilities claiming that Zombies are OP. Well, sorry to break it to you, but there are other routes you can go to. The other annoying this is Zombies who don't know how to stop the payload. They don't care about stepping on the objective (a common behavior in all Turf Takeover defending, but mostly noticeable in zombies team.).
The last objective is annoying to defend/attack. It's either too easy or too hard, rarely in-between.

Mixed feelings:

  • Loggy Acres: I always switch to Zombies no matter what or just straight up leave. Because Plants players are terrible at defending this map. They often jump forward "solo" and try to take on enemies without caring that much about the objective or playing it defensively. What adds more to the plants issue is that respawn locations are pretty far away from the objective. Makes it a not-so-fun map for the plants. Also, some plant players are blind/deaf, the bomb is coming in front of them, and I'm clearly shooting their holders, allies behind me do nothing and the bomb gets delivered anyway. On the other side, when playing Zombies, this mission is amazing most of the time. Pushing the payload is usually easier, respawning back to action is faster and at least people try to do something.
Delivering bombs can be annoying... No one covers for you when you carry a bomb, no one is behind you either.. No matter what you do, you're usually on your own.. Good luck!! being swallowed, gooped and sniped with no assist. Nobody really cares about you. It's sad when you cover for others when others don't cover for you.

My worst map:

  • Goopy Gully: This is a claustrophobia inducing map. Especially the first and third objectives, as they are too small and tight. It is too easy to eat damage without having cover when inside. And then, when plants finally capture the all 3 zones, we get a spacious zone that is a bit difficult to defend. The plants spawn really close to objective while zombies have it rough by taking longer. But the whole purpose of the last zone, which isn't explained clearly in the game, is to stall the plants and reduce their time when they need to take the drill down. If you stopped the plants from capturing the point with 50 seconds left, for example, the plants will only get 2 minutes to take down the drill. The spawn points of this map are fair and acceptable but it's just the objectives being small when there are abilities that can take half of the objectives' sizes (second and third only).
The last objective, *sigh*, is always a mixed bag... When I play Plants, I feel like I'm the only one shooting the drill sometimes while other players do not understand what they're doing. When I play Zombies, the same exact thing happens, people go to the opposite directions sometimes without caring about clearing the zones from attacking/shooting plants.

Last objectives are always a mixed bag... They are either too easy or too hard. But that's a clear indicator that teamwork is required which is a good thing, I guess? And some players have no definition of teamwork in their brain-dictionaries. Hence, why you see many posts about "buffing/nerfing" because everyone wants to take down enemies 1v1 without factoring in teamwork (Chomper and Snapdragon fall into this category... They are too good with Sunflowers and others covering for them, but terrible when you're not around your teammates.)

  • I don't play TT enough to truly know but applaud you for an amazing post.

    Bravo, man.

(I will say Peachy District is one of my favorite maps of the entire game).

  • Great post! I may come back to edit this and expand on my thoughts, but quickly:

Peachy District is my clear favourite. It has an end stage with a lot of tactical decisions to make.  The colourful urban environments make a change from the brown that dominates some other maps. Spawn points are not too far from objectives. Not too linear, and few choke points  - attackers can come from multiple directions. Every base can go either way, there are no cakewalk stages. And I love the cut scene when zombies win.

I don’t like push-the-payload stages, and I don’t like being spawned miles from the objective, so Loggy Acres is not my favourite map. However, after the zombies cakewalk the payload to the electrical station, then things get interesting. I have enjoyed some epic battles capturing or defending that base. Bomb delivery is quite frustrating. As @GammaX6 said, you’re on your own most of the time. I prefer to accompany someone carrying a bomb and provide covering fire, since I figure that’s more helpful than trying to walk the bomb across the map all by myself. But I think plants have it worse. Even if you put up a solid defence, it tends to unravel one the zombies deliver the first bomb, I guess due to time extensions providing a big advantage.

I dislike the end stage of Turning Point. On the surface it seems similar to Loggy Acres (bomb delivery), but it is more frustrating for both attackers and defenders due to the pickup and drop off points being switched. It is no fun to throw yourself in front of three or more engineers turrets trying to pick up a battery! And for attackers it is no fun to chase down a captured battery as a plant carries it back to their base.

There are no maps that I won’t play, and I never switch teams.

  • @GammaX6 There isn't any one map that makes me think "Yay, love playing this one!" but Peachy District is the one that feels best to me in terms of colour & scenery and the only one I think, that it doesn't bother me which team I'm on.
No clear favourite for worst map. With the others, I generally find that they feel better for one team more than the other, or that there are just parts of the map I dislike, whether it's the first base, the end-game or a point or two in the middle. (Again, those depend on which team I'm on & also how my own team is)
I'm with @jnicol1975 - I'll play all of them & I don't switch sides unless the teams are unbalanced.
Would like to nominate Colossal Fossil as least favourite Ops map!!!

@ToastedSarnie Oh, I was thinking of making another topic regarding OPs, but I'll do it later. Someday... <- my mind is stuffed with ideas untold

Daisy Drive is the best OPs map because the objective is in a higher hill and everything else is easy to see. Unlike other maps where enemies spawn behind covers or longer routes, Daisy Drive is a fast-paced map that feels faithful to the classic map of GW1. I wish they'd add more day/night cycles.

    * Edit: Minor formatting tweaks.

  • @GammaX6 Good idea! Yes, I agree about Daisy Drive, though I probably like Ruiny Ruins most just because it's got so much greenery! Day & night maps would be great & possibly seasonal ones. Might not work so well on some maps, but autumnal trees or a bit of snow & festive house lights in suburban areas would be amazing.

@ToastedSarnie I honestly wanted them to make at least one Turf Takeover and one OPs maps Halloween themed. Both Peachy District and Daisy Drive are more than suitable for that. Night themed, with houses having the Halloween spirit.
