Re: what permissions are required for online play on xbox360

@xThotslayer666xI'll try to explain - hope I've got it right & that it makes sense!

On Xbox One, one person needs an account with Xbox Live Gold. That acc can play online, both on Xbox One & Xbox 360.

Family accs linked to the main acc can play online games on Xbox One, but NOT on the 360, without their own Xbox Live acc (if it still exists, which is ONLY used for the 360 console & I'd guess is what you had before) or an Xbox Live Gold acc.

Without a Live acc of some sort, family accs  would only be able to play offline 360 games, or join the main acc in online splitscreen as a guest acc.

Please carefully double-check I'm right though, before thinking about making any changes to any accounts, as the main acc would have all existing game access 👍

I'd like to accept the above response as a solution, but I don't know squat about xbox360.

@pandareno1999Thanks, it's horribly confusing - my son & I got ourselves tied in knots trying to figure it out a while back, when we dug out our old 360 because of problems with our One!

I think basically if @xThotslayer666x had their OWN Xbox Live acc before & don't have any kind of acc now, it's a simple matter of renewing the subscription or upgrading it to Xbox Gold Live.

If they do have an acc, particularly a family acc linked to an Xbox Live Gold acc, it's way more complicated. If you set up your own new acc, I'm pretty sure it would mean you no longer have access to all the games & game passes you currently have, unless speaking to Xbox themselves about permissions can achieve something.

It may also be possible to speak to them & ask if it's possible to create an Xbox Live acc on individual family accs, I guess, but don't know for sure - I didn't attempt that as I was worried about messing up current family access on the One games we have.

If @xThotslayer666x has an acc that's used on the One but isn't interested in using the 360 console itself, just wants to play a particular old game & isn't worried about losing past progress, the easiest option is probably just to see if they can get hold of a backward compatible version of the game.

    Messy! 😖

ADDED: If anyone knows or finds out more, I'd love to hear about it!
