To get the most use out of your cards, even those fancy new Galactic Gardens cards, you'll want to be able to utilize any and all available combinations, meaning that you'll want every plant and zombie hero unlocked. There are also hero quests to complete, and that'll give you a few gems and sparks. 750 gems for a guaranteed hero is an absolute best-purchase in this game*.
*I'd add an "IMO" or "IMHO" disclaimer, but it might be a fact.
I agree and I would add to that by suggesting grinding ads at least (5 mins a day for 100 gems)
Hi Aphid, I was thinking that purchasing the 11 premium pack bundle for 1000 gems gives me more cards and a bigger opportunity to get heroes as well? Do you think that these packs that may drop heroes are worth it?

@Cancerroyale, if your goal is to unlock all the heroes, I suggest you buy the hero pack as the drop rates on heroes in the packs aren't worth the gamble (as you can see from MyPouf's results). Though zdarcon suggest only buying the hero pack if the hero is the week's 10x booster, it's notable that every hero will at some point be a 10x booster. Personally, I feel the game is just more fun and there is more to do when you have every hero unlocked.

@Cancerroyale, I agree with everyone else, if you haven't unlocked all the Heroes, pick one (that preferrably has the x10 boost). That's the most bang for your gems.
